Steven Carpenter, 27, husband of Heather Caudell Carpenter, died Saturday, Aug 26, 2006.

He was the son of Wayne and Penny Carpenter of Versailles and grandson of Laura Carpenter and Dennis Adams of Versailles. He was a maintenance employee for the Versailles Housing Authority and was a former employee of the City of Versailles and had worked in the Versailles Cemetery.

Other survivors include his children, Gabriel Ray Carpenter and Nicolas Steven Carpenter; his aunt and uncles, Tammy Huelette, Chris Carpenter, and William Lucas; and his cousins, Dean Tipton, Mark Tipton, Jeremy Carpenter, and Celeste Carpenter. His maternal grandparents, William “Bones” Lucas and Myrtle Lucas, are deceased.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Aug. 30, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home. Burial was in Rose Crest Cemetery. Casket bearers were Waymon Cunningham, Josh Bobbitt, Daniel Buffin, Dean Tipton, Mark Tipton, Jeremy Carpenter, and Thomas Tipton.

William David "Billy" Courtney, 36, of Georgetown, died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, in Lexington, of an apparent massive heart attack.

Born in Little Rock, Ark., he was the son of Billy and Clara Henson Courtney of Georgetown. He was an active member of the Gloryland Baptist Church in Berea and was a farrier who enjoyed working with horses.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by four children, Billie Jean Courtney, Bethany Paige Courtney, Kaitlyn May Courtney, and Brandon Lee Courtney, all of Georgetown; three sisters, Cassandra Brewer, Cynthiana, DeAnna Aguilar, Lexington, Melinda Gillespie, Georgetown; a brother, Christopher Courtney, Georgetown; his maternal grandmother, Estelle McKinney, Berea; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

Services were conducted Tuesday, Aug. 29, at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by Pastor Cecil Burns. Interment was at Evergreen Memory Gardens in Bourbon County. Casket bearers were Joseph Gatrost, Michael Workman, Christopher Courtney, Matthew Puckett, David Bowman, Robby Adams, Greg McCloud, and Brandon Courtney.

Dianne Newman Hensley, 67, daughter of Cal Miller of Versailles and the late Sarah Hester Miller, died Friday, Aug. 25, at Homestead Nursing Home, Lexington.

She was a member of the Glen’s Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her father, she is survived by a brother, Bob Newman, Lexington.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, Aug. 28, in the Versailles Cemetery by Dr. Ken Underwood and the Rev. Al Gisler.

Charlotte Spencer Staton, 53, of Million Lane, wife of Omar Staton and mother of McKayla Rose Staton, died Wednesday. Aug. 23, 2006.

A well known Woodford County school teacher, she begin teaching at Huntertown Elementary in 1986, and more recently taught at Woodford County Middle School. She was a 1971 graduate of Woodford County High School, obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky in 1982 and her master’s degree in education from Georgetown College in 1989. She had worked with the DARE program and was an active member of the Pinckard Baptist Church. She was an avid square dancer and had belonged to several clubs, including the Goodtime Squares and the B&B Square Dancers.

In addition to her husband and daughter, she is survived by her mother, Rose Spencer, Versailles; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Staton Baker; a sister, Peggy Smith; a step-grandson, Christopher Baker; and a niece, Jessica Dawn Smith, all of Nicholasville; and a half-sister, Jean Cassaday, Ft. Wayne, Ind. Her father, Dorsie Willard Staton, is deceased.

Services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 26, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by Pastor Doug Simpson. Interment was is Blue Grass Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Casket bearers were Paul Stahler, Casey Jetton, Mark Smith, Steele Smith, John D. Jacobs, and Clyde Lunsford.
