Carpenter

Elsie Pauline Dennis Carpenter, 87, of Lawrenceburg, died Thursday, July 28, 2011.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Donnie) Beasley, Lawrenceburg, three sons, Donnie (Gail) Cummins, Versailles, and Morris "Moose" (Star) Cummins and Gene Cummins, both of Lawrenceburg.

Services were conducted Sunday, July 31, at the Gash Memorial Chapel, Lawrenceburg.

 

Donoho

Larine Eaves Donoho, 70, of Versailles, widow of Robert Lee Donoho, died Thursday, July 28, 2011.

Born March 15, 1941, in Versailles, she was the daughter of the late Virgil and Minnie Tate Eaves. She was a retired administrative assistant for the vice-president of Kentucky American Water Company. She also volunteered at the Woodford County Extension Office, was a member of the Woodford County Homemakers Association, and a former co-owner of Ceramics-in-Such. She was a member of Glenís Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Jeff (Toni) Donoho and Greg Donoho, both of Versailles, and Shawn (Heidi) Donoho, Villa Hills; a sister, Bessie Bain, Versailles; a brother, J.C. Eaves, Versailles; 14 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Two sisters, Savannah Rudd and Frances McDaniel, and two brothers, Lee Grand Eaves and Hamilton Eaves, are deceased.

Services were conducted Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, by the Rev. Justin Rader. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers were Steven Donoho, Tommy Bain, Steve Bain, Freeman Bailey, Jim Knight, and Justin Lewis. Honorary bearers were Tyler Donoho, June Mitchell, Pat Ballard and Ethan Donoho.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

 

Grimes

Mary Catherine Hart "Granny" Grimes, 89, of Versailles, widow of Virgil C. Grimes, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at the Bluegrass Community Hospital.

Born in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Wimpigler Hart. She was an employee of the Woodford County Transportation Department as a special needs monitor.

Survivors include two daughters, Jackie "Gary" Reynolds, Salvisa, and Debbie Turner, Versailles; four grandchildren, Devan Donovan, Cheri Donovan, Tina Purvis, and Briana Turner; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted Saturday, July 30, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Nancy S. Farley. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Hayes

Elizabeth Mai Kropke "Betty" Hayes, 88, of Versailles, died Friday, July 29, 2011, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington.

Born in Chicago, Ill, she was the daughter of the late Robert A. and Pauline Elizabeth Jewell Kropke. She was a former computer operator, had worked for IBM, and had served in the Womenís Army Corps for 10 years. She was a member of the Episcopal Church.

Survivors include a son, Robert Matthew Hayes, Germany; four sisters, Virginia (Wally) Hoffmann, Versailles, Karole Christian, Santa Barbara, Calif., Pauline Savage, Sacramento, Calif., and Gloria Harris, Temple, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services and military honors were conducted Wednesday, Aug. 3, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery by the Rev. Nancy S. Farley. Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the Womenís Memorial Foundation, Dept. 560, Washington, DC 20042-0560.

Gumm

John Lewis Gumm Sr., 87, of Lexington, widower of Flora Gumm, died Thursday, July 28, 2011, at the St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.

Born in Woodford County, he was the son of the late Steve and Laura Gumm. He was a retired fire department battalion chief, a member of Parkway Baptist Church, the F.O.F., #1 Lodge, Masons and Oleika Shrine.

Survivors include two sons, John L. (Ann) Gumm Jr. and Steve (Linda) Gumm; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters. Two sons are deceased.

Services were conducted Monday, Aug. 1, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Main Street, Lexington. Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery.

 

Lutz

Virginia M. Lutz, 100, of Versailles, died Friday, July 29, 2011, at Taylor Manor Nursing Home.

Born Dec. 25, 1910, in Salineville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Ella Smith McClellen. She was a teacher.

Survivors include a daughter, Penelope Susan Lutz, Hawaii; and three sons, Michael Gary Lutz, Willisburg, Stephen Scott Lutz, California, and Timothy Richard Lutz, California.

Services are scheduled for a later date. Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, is in charge of arrangements.

Martin

Ray Martin Jr., 28, of Versailles, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Born in Lexington, he was the son of Ray Martin and Pauline Park of Frankfort. He was an employee of Lexington Outdoor Power Equipment.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Allisa Shuck; and three sisters, Wanda Gilbert, Stephanie Farler, and Paula Cook, all of Frankfort.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Sunset Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Wallace Kent. Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sullens

Hal Sullens, 63, of Versailles, husband of Cheryl Sullens, died Sunday, July 31, 2011.

Born Sept. 30, 1947, in Jonesboro, Ark., he was a graduate of Sandia High School in Albuquerque, N.M. and New Mexico State in Las Cruces. He was in the Thoroughbred business as a trainer, horse hauler, and agent.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Wes Sullens (Ericka); a daughter, Dawn Monk (John); a grandson, Chance Monk; a sister, Nancy Law (Ross); and many nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be conducted in Longview, Texas, at a later date. Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, is in charge of arrangements.

Walton

Hazel Sharon Lewis Walton, 56, of Versailles, widow of Robert Walton, died Saturday, July 30, 2011.

Born Aug. 13, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Whalen McClanahan and James Alry Lewis. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Cox, Versailles, and Roberta Elder, Lexington; a sister, Margaret Kathleen Pizzo, Florida; a brother, James Alry Lewis Jr., North Carolina; eight grandchildren, James Robert Elder, Kimberly Elder, Christina Elder, Cory Walton, Sarah Cox, Katelen Walton, Juan Coronel and Joseph Coronel; and two great-grandchildren.
