Altman Joseph Walton Altman, 73, of Lexington, husband of Nellia D. Altman, died Friday, July 31, 2009, at the Central Baptist Hospital. Born March 8, 1936, in Gabe, he was the son of the late Joseph Leon and Ora Edna Altman. He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired construction foreman for Woodford Steel, and a charter member of the William B. Allen Masonic Lodge in Summersville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Christy (Frank) Altman Coffey; a son, Joe W. Altman; five grandchildren, Quinn Katherine and Griffin Coffey, Brent and Matt Altman, and Tim Griffieth; two nephews, Adam and Peter Michel; and four siblings, V.T., Sybil, and Ray Altman, Campbellsville, and Robby Altman, Louisville. A son, Timothy Joe Altman, is deceased. Services were conducted Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Craig Ida Lee Lindsay Craig, 106, of Midway, widow of James Marshall Craig, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at Taylor Manor Nursing Home in Versailles. A native of Midway, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Hallie Smith Lindsay and was a member of the Midway Baptist Church. Survivors include a grandson, Russell Craig (Ann) Moss, Georgetown; a granddaughter, Jo Ann (Dwight Lee) Offutt, Stamping Ground; four great-grandchildren, Lee Ann (Tom) Watters, Dwight Offutt, Bryan Alan Moss, and Denise (Doug) Sharp and three great-great-grandchildren. A foster daughter, Helen Moss Lynn, and a great-great-granddaughter, Hope Offutt, are deceased. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 6, at Johnson’s Funeral Home, Georgetown, by the Rev. Glenn Redmon. Burial will be in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Dawson Glyndon Albert Dawson, 78, of Lexington, husband of Patricia Hudson Dawson, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at the VA Hospital, Lexington. Born July 8, 1931, in Slaton, Texas, he was the son of the late William and Mary Dawson. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Jeff (Debi), Missouri; Rusty (Angie), Versailles; Scott (Dineen), Montana; and Craig (Angela), Oregon; six grandchildren, Brent, Erin, Jeremy, Katie, Jack and Emily; a sister, Judy Miles, Texas; and two brothers, Bill and Ted Dawson, Texas. Estep Inell Hagan Estep, 73, of Burkesville, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at the Cumberland County Hospital after an illness. Survivors include her father, Lester Hagan, Burkesville; three sons, J.R. Estep, Burkesville, Calvin Davis, Scottsville, and Dougas Estep, Versailles; four daughters, Paula Anderson, Robin Estep, and Samantha Simpson, all of Burkesville, and Beverly Estep, Lexington; two sisters, Beverly Hagan, Burkesville, and Elsie Muse, New Palestine, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, Burkesville. Burial will be in Mud Camp Cemetery. Visitation will after 5 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 6, at the funeral home. Free Dr. Teresa Ann Free, 59, of Versailles, died Friday, July 31, 2009, of cancer. Born and raised in Kingsport, Tenn., she lived many years in Memphis, Tenn., and the last 19 years in Versailles. She was a member at First Church of God in Lexington, where she served on the church council, as Sunday school superintendent and as coordinator of the Dare to Care program. She was a graduate of Holston High School in Blountville, Tenn., received a B.S. at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, her M.S.N. from the University of California, San Francisco, and her Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Texas, Austin. She was employed as an associate professor at the University of Kentucky, and her work was published in numerous publications. She received various grants and performed numerous research projects for the university. She received the Beatrice Hood Award for Excellence in Nursing Practice, and served as president of the Nursing Division of the American Association on Mental Retardation. Survivors include her mother, Estelle Bradley Free, Kingsport, Tenn.; a brother, Brad (Irene) Free, Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Myra Free, Richmond, Va.; four nephews, Michael Welch, Bryan Daniel, Brock Daniel, and Christopher Free; and three great-nephews. Her father, Wallace P. Free, and a brother, Robert Preston Free, are deceased. Services were conducted Monday, Aug. 3, at the First Church of God, Lexington. Goff Margaret McCroskey Goff, 88,of Frankfort, widow of Otto Goff, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009. Born in Lee County, she was the daughter of the late William and Mildred McCroskey. She was a former secretary and housewife and a member of Graefenburg Christian Church. Survivors include five daughters, Dee (Ron) Mobley, Georgia, Beth Poe, Frankfort, Mickey Goff, Frankfort, Dana (Jamie) Yount, Lawrenceburg, and Kathryn Lynne Goff, Louisville; two sons, Ed (Stephanie) Goff, Ft. Myers, Fla., and Tim Goff, Frankfort; a brother, Bob McCroskey, Ashland; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A sister, Marceille Combs, and a brother, Edwin McCroskey, are deceased. Services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 1, at Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road, Frankfort, by the Rev. Ron Mobley. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Lagrew Mary Gray Lagrew, 101, of Lexington, widow of Embry D. Lagrew, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at the Central Baptist Hospital. Born in Winchester, she was the daughter of the late Dallas and Lenora Dunigan. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Christian Church, where she was active with the Missionary Society. Survivors include a son, David (Nigal) Crutcher Lagrew, Lexington; five grandchildren, Michael (Courtney) Lagrew, Lexington, Dr. Mary Jane Lagrew, Lexington, Dr. David C. (Nancy) Lagrew, Orange County, Calif., Jeffrey F. (Louise) Lagrew, Versailles, and Lisa Lagrew Brock, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren, Jessica Thompson, Whitney Walters, David C. McDaniel James McDaniel, 72, of Salvisa, husband of Kimberly Hume McDaniel, died Friday, July 31, 2009, at his home. Born Nov. 26, 1936, in Richmond, he was the son of the late Homer and Alma (Coffee) McDaniel. He served with the Army National Guard for 38 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Karen Meekins and Cindy Turner, both of Versailles; two sons, James McDaniel Jr., Versailles, and Scott McDaniel, Lexington; a sister, Marie Kinley, Indianapolis, Ind.; a stepson, Roger Alan Patton, Versailles; a stepdaughter, Crystal Woods, Harrodsburg; and seven grandchildren. McGaughey Earl Wayne McGaughey, 61, of Lawrenceburg, husband of Lynda Robinson McGaughey, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009. He recently retired after 42 years at Quebecor World in Versailles. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Pauline McGaughey (Raymond) Perkins; two children, Chris (Delena) McGaughey and Stephanie (Bryan) Jefferson; four grandchildren, Laura, Megan, and Devon McGaughey, and Ashley Jefferson. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home, Lawrenceburg. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today Thursday, Aug. 6. Quisenberry Bettye Orme Quisenberry, 76, of Lexington, wife of Bob Quisenberry, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at her home after living many years with Parkinson’s Disease. The daughter of the late Frank and Sarah Orme of Irvine, she was a graduate of Irvine High School, Christian College, and the University of Kentucky. She was a long time member of Immanuel Baptist Church and served as youth choir/mission tour mother for over 15 years. She was a homemaker and an employee of The Longest Yard. In addition to her husband of 54 years, she is survived by five children, Lisa, David, Brian, and Eric Quisenberry, all of Lexington, and Susan (Tom) Allen, Midway; two grandsons, Luke and Seth Allen; a brother, Bill (Nell) Orme, Stanton; and many nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Lucy Orme and Frances Lambert, are deceased. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Lexington, by the Rev. Tom Allen and Dr. James Stillwell. Friends and family will be received from noon until the memorial service begins at the church. She donated her body to the University of Kentucky A.B. Waller Charles Edmund (Buster) Waller, 89, of Georgetown, husband of Elsie Powers Waller, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, after a long illness at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Lexington. Born Oct. 15, 1919, in Nonesuch, he attended Long Lick Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving overseas in World War II as a staff sergeant. He was wounded in action and was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Combat Infantryman Badge. In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by two children, Doug (Brenda) Waller and Brenda (Mike) Parker; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Two sisters and a brother are deceased. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Tucker, Yocum, & Wilson Funeral Home, Georgetown, by Pastor Glen Redmond. Ward, 71, a prominent Lexington lawyer and community leader, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, in a one-car accident near Newport, Tenn. Mr. Ward’s wife, Karen, was seriously injured and airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. The couple was returning to Lexington from their vacation home in North Carolina, said Mr. Ward’s brother, Woodford County Coroner J. Steve Ward of Versailles. A Leslie County native, he was a third-generation lawyer. His father, the late Don A. Ward, was a former circuit judge of the 33rd Judicial District, including all of Perry County. A former partner in charge of the Lexington office of the law firm Wyatt Tarrant & Combs, Mr. Ward handled many cases involving mineral, energy and environmental law. The National Mining Association once named him Coal Lawyer of the Year. Chambers U.S.A., a rating organization for lawyers, recognized him as a senior statesman and noted that he was looked upon as a dean of local mineral law. He was a past president of the Eastern Mineral Law Foundation. He also had taught energy law at the University of Kentucky College of Law. He was a 1960 graduate of Georgetown College and a 1964 graduate of the UK College of Law, was recruited to come to Lexington to practice law by former Kentucky Governor Bert T. Combs, one of the founders of Wyatt Tarrant & Combs. He was a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Lexington and a member of the Georgetown College board of trustees. In addition to his wife and brother, who is Woodford County’s coroner, he is survived by two sons, John Ward of Hebron and Jeff Ward of Indianapolis; his mother, Hazel Fox Ward; two other brothers, Don F.
