Greene Doris Evelyn Strode Greene, of Lexington, wife of Stewart Greene, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, after a brief illness. She was a 2002 graduate of the CIPL program and was the PTA president and SBDM council member at Johnson Elementary School for many years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, William "Billy" (Patricia) Coffey Jr., Daytona Beach, Fla., Selena (George) Ross, Lexington, and Candy Smith, Versailles; nine grandchildren, Tekiesha Hamilton, O’Dell Rawlings, Troy Combs, Troyona Combs, Arysha Kincaid, Rachel (Terry Lee), Terri Schanding, John-Tajh Marshall and Chesley Ford; her great-grandchildren; a brother, Alfred "Bubba" (Florence) Strode; a sister Doris Simpson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 10, and services will be at 12 p.m. at Smith & Smith Funeral Home, Lexington. Lee Mildred Katherine Lee, 84, of Paris, widow of John Lee, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009. Survivors include four daughters, Thelma (Roy) Neal, Harrodsburg, Betty (Len) Conner, Richmond, Joyce (Arnold) Willoughby, Winchester, and Mary (Donald) Butte, Lexington; two sons, John Lee, Lexington, James (Penny) Lee, Versailles; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A grandson, Allen Neal, is deceased. Services were conducted Monday, Dec. 7, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home, Paris, by the Rev. Charles H. Kemp. Burial was in the Clintonville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Bourbon Heights Activity Fund, Hospice of the Bluegrass, or Clintonville Christian Church Pavilion Fund. Wand Helen Ruth Ashbrook Wand, of Lexington, widow of Donald Wand, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009. She was a graduate of Evansville College and the Deaconess School of Nursing, Evansville, Ind., where she was also an instructor. She was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps Nursing Corps. She was a supervisor of nursing at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington. She retired in 1986 and later worked at Woodford Memorial Hospital, Versailles, from 1989 to 1991. Survivors include four children and five grandchildren. No services will be held. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504. Willhoite Ben G. Willhoite Jr., 77, of Frankfort, husband of Floria Willhoite, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at his residence following a long illness. A native of Franklin County, he was the son of the late Ben and Bertha Willhoite. He was a self-employed carpenter and retired state employee. In addition to his wife of 22 years, he is survived by a brother, Billy Rucker, Colorado; a sister, Beatrice Hensley, Frankfort; five daughters, Marry Ann Marshall (Buford), Kathy Willhoite, Paula Willhoite, Tish Harrison, and Benita Willhoite; three stepdaughters, Carolyn Mahdi (Mustafa), Shirley Graves (Jerry), and JoAnn Couch; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many extended family members. Two brothers, Edgar and J.T. Willhoite; and three sisters, Thelma Bingham, Doris Cheek, and Janie Smith, are deceased. Services were conducted Saturday, Dec. 5, at Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road, Frankfort, by the Rev. Roger Outler. Casket bearers were Benjamin Lowery, David Cheek, Paul Wallace, Dale Walker, Robbie McClure, and Larry Flynn.
