Appling Douglas Terry Appling, 55, of Versailles, husband of Tammy Appling, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at his home. Born in Montgomery County, he was the son of Elmer and Jean Appling of Versailles. He had resided in California and Missouri and had graduated in 1972 from Wentzville High School in Wentzville, Mo. He was well known for his expertise in the automotive industry, and had retired as a technician from Glenn Nissan. He was an active member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by four children, Michael Appling and Jeana Robinson, Missouri, Tyler (Tara) Appling, Ludlow, and Ariel Appling, Versailles; three sisters, Paula (Jim) Roberts, Missouri, Marla Appling, Versailles, and Rhonda Vanwinkle, Brodhead; and four grandchildren, Alyssa Biggs, Caleb Appling, Brian Robinson, and Marley Brown. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by Steve Schultz. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Born January 25, 1923, in Dayton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Gladys Marie Gilenwater Hetzler. She was a property manager for 25-plus years for Peaches Property. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Alma (Jack) Lancaster, Frankfort; a son, Danny Robinson, Ohio; a stepson, Michael E. Downey, Frankfort; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great great-grandchild. A stepson, Charles Downey Jr.; two brothers, Robert Hetzler and Richard Hetzler; and a sister, are deceased. Services were conducted Saturday, Dec. 12, at Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road, Frankfort. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Goins Thomas Goins, 86, of Nicholasville, husband of Ruby Goins, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at the Royal Manor Nursing Home. Born in Casey County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Edna Goins. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Vince Goins, Anderson County, and Stephen Goins, Frankfort; a daughter, Wanda Sue (Doug) Cheek, Harrodsburg; a stepdaughter, Mary Margaret (Gordan) Conrad, Nicholasville; a brother, Charles M. Goins, Versailles; two sisters, Nellie Donnell and Virgie (John) Shuck, both of Versailles; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, by Bro. Richard Wilkins. Burial was in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens. Survivors include two daughters, Amanda M. Hartsock and Chyrell Hartsock, both of Newport; three sons, Adam Humphries, Bald Knob, Terry Humphries, Frankfort, and Lee Hart, Crittenden; a grandchild; his father, Kenneth Hartsock; four sisters, Rosa Iorfida, Debbie Matthews, Emma Matthews, and Laura Hartsock; and a brother, Kenneth Hartsock, Elsmere. Lawrence, 57, husband of Theresa Lawrence of Wilmore, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at the Hospice Care Center. Born Feb. 28, 1952, in Atlanta, Ga., he was the son of Ruth M. Lawrence of Wilmore and the late H. Allen Lawrence. He graduated from West Georgia with a B.S., from University of Georgia with an M.S. and from University of Florida with a Ph.D. He was a member of the Equine Science Society for number of years. He spent five years on the faculty at Washington State University and then was an associate professor and the extension horse specialist at the Virginia Polytech Institute from 1991 to 2002. In 2002 he joined Kentucky Equine Research in Versailles as the senior equine nutritionist. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a stepdaughter, Sophia Weddington, Wilmore; a sister, Karen (Herb) Reichenbach; and two nieces, Samantha and Jenna Reichenbach, all of Port Washington, N.Y. Memorial services were conducted Wednesday, Dec. 16, at St. Leo Catholic Church, Versailles, by Fr. Dan Noll. Kerr Bros. Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, was in charge of arrangements. Miller, of Lexington, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, of COPD. Her passion was the well-being of all animals with a compassion for the homeless or those in need. Survivors include a daughter, Diane (Keith) Hatton, Versailles; seven grandchildren, Michelle (Tim) Martin, Suzette (Joe) Uttinger, Amanda Hatton, Yvonne (Mark) Mclaughlin, Tommy (Tammy) Buchner, Steve (Lil) Buchner, and Bobby (Joyce) Buchner; and her great-grandchildren. Memorial services were conducted Saturday, Dec. 12, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington. Donations may be made to the Woodford Humane Society. McDaniel James William "Jim" McDaniel II, 46, of Versailles, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at his residence. Born in Woodford County, he was a Woodford County High School graduate and former member of the Kentucky National Guard. He was a former construction foreman for Coleman and Veith Construction. Survivors include two daughters, Emily Kate McDaniel and Karah Elizabeth McDaniel, and their mother, Linda McDaniel; his mother and step-father, B.J. and Dr. Marvin Roberts; two sisters, Karen (David) Meekins and Cindy Turner, both of Versailles; and a brother, Scott (Gretchen) McDaniel, Lexington. His father, James William McDaniel Sr., is deceased. A memorial service was conducted Saturday, Dec. 12, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by Fr. Alan Sutherland. Reeves, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at Bluegrass Community Hospital. A Henry County native, she was the daughter of the late Velvin and Mary Etta Aldridge Teters. She and her husband had resided in Versailles for several years and she was a member of the Faith Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Connie (Bob) Schuermeyer, Lexington, David (Kate) Reeves, Murray, and Jim Reeves, Chicago; a sister, Sue Jones, Brandenburg; three grandchildren, Ashley Stanfield and Adrianne Hayhurst, Lexington, and Kate Reeves, Murray; and three great-grandchildren. Services were conducted Monday, Dec. 14, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Bobby Lakes. Burial was in the New Castle Cemetery in Henry County. Casket bearers were Brandon Stanfield, James Hayhurst, Bob Schuermeyer, Andrew Freiheit, Mark Hazelwood, and Vanny Davidson. Wilson Harry McAfee "Mackie" Wilson, 67, of Versailles, husband of Brenda W. Wilson, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at his residence. Born in Woodford County, he was the son of Margaret B. Wilson of Versailles and the late William H. Wilson Jr. He was a retired employee of Quebecor World and was a U.S. Army veteran. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Shane M. Wilson, Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Margaret Ann "Peggy" Wilson, Versailles; a brother, William H. "Billy" Wilson III, Versailles; and several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Dawn Wilson, and a sister, Rosemary Wilson, are deceased. Services were conducted Friday, Dec. 11, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. John Brandon. Burial was in the Versailles Cemetery.
