Greer

Ellen Greer, 49, of Woodson Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004.

The daughter of the late Gulf and Clarice Newsome, she was a Republic Bank employee.

Survivors include three daughters, Lindsey Taylor, Jessica Greer, and Maggie Greer, all of Versailles; a granddaughter, Kyleigh Taylor, Versailles; her fiancé, Steven Erisman, Lawrenceburg; four sisters and three brothers.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Walt Sanderson. Interment was in the Rose Crest Cemetery. The family requests no flowers and prefers memorials to benefit Ellen's children. Contribution envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Guy

Roy Edward Guy, 51, of Lexington, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004.

A native of Woodford County, he was the son of the late Clay E. Guy Sr. and Virginia Bush Guy. He was a member of the Second Christian Church, Midway.

Survivors include three sisters, Effie Edwards, Mary Roberts, and Virginia Ann Guy; two brothers, Alfred N. Guy and Clay Guy Jr.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A brother, Maurice Guy Sr., is deceased.

Services were conducted Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at Second Christian Church, Midway. O. L. Hughes & Sons Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Luft

Betty Jean Pittman Luft, 71, of Lexington, formerly of Midway, widow of John Robert Luft, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born April 13, 1933, in Fayetteville, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Allen and Rose Fathergill Pittman. She was a member of the First Church of God in Lexington, was a former employee of Vogue Rattan Mfg. in Lexington, and had retired from Hilton Suites Hotel in Lexington.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Banks, Lexington; four sisters, Nancy Yeary, Midway, Lillie Eaves, Kathleen Conway, and Phyllis Hopewell, all of Frankfort; two brothers, George Pittman, Inverness, Fla., and William Pittman, Lawrenceburg; and two grandsons, Darren and Tyler Banks. A brother, Donald Pittman, is deceased.

Services were conducted Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at the Clark Funeral Home in Versailles by Dr. Stan Schilffarth. Burial was in the Midway Cemetery. Casket bearers were Kenneth Banks, Darren Banks, Tyler Banks, George Pittman, William Pittman, Jamie Popp and Walter Robert Yeary.

Maddox

John E. Maddox, 92, of Taylor Manor Nursing Home, widower of Natalie Henton Maddox, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at Bluegrass Community Hospital.

He was the former owner and pharmacist at the Corner Drug Store for over 30 years.

Born in Oldham County, he was the son of the late Alonzo and Dodi Wheeler Maddox. He was a member of the Pinckard Baptist Church and U. S Army veteran, serving in the mortar division during World War II, and remaining active in the Army Reserve until March 1955. He held a bachelor of science degree from Purdue University.

Survivors include a daughter, Pamela A. Martin, Plymouth, N.H.; a son, Michael Mason Maddox, Lincoln, Mass.; and two grandchildren, Jessie Maddox and Katy Maddox. A sister, Naomi Smith, is deceased.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Doug Simpson. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in La Grange at the La Grange Cemetery. Casket bearers will be his cousins in Oldham County. Honorary bearers will be Ellie Castle, Rose Mary Lucas, Willie Mae Parker, Clara Ann Dozier, Joyce “Cookie” Eaves, and Betty Wilhoit. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 2, at the funeral home.

 

Mallory

Douglas Mallory, 61, of Lexington, formerly of Georgetown, husband of Pattye Case Mallory, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at the Hospice Care Center.

A native of Covington, he was the son of the late Floyd Rees and Mildred Anderson Mallory. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Georgetown, and was a former employee of Kuhlman Electric, Versailles; the Georgetown Water Company; and Hendrix Wire and Cable Company, New Hampshire. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and an avid fisherman.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Brian Mallory, Independence; a daughter, Jennifer Faye Runnels, Lexington; four grandchildren, Benjamin Andrew and Mallory Anne Runnels, and Ashton Faye and Payton Elizabeth Mallory; a brother, Dennis Mallory, Tucson, Ariz.; and a sister Diane Charles, Georgetown.

Memorial services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at Johnson's Funeral Home, Georgetown. Honorary bearers were Dennis Neclerio, Mike Wright, Charlie Sutton, Everett Wohn, Larry Prather, Tom Brennan, Richard Case, Robert A. Wohn and Dr. Gus Bynum.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

 

Penn

Randall Garland Penn of Mildred Street, Versailles, husband of Judy Ellen Craig Penn, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004.

He was the son of the late Garland J. and Cecil Dunn Penn.

Survivors include three sons, Randall and Robert Penn, both of Anderson County, and Steven Penn, Versailles; two brothers, Bobby Joe Penn, West Carrollton, Ohio, and David Penn, Millville; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

No services are planned. Mr. Penn donated his body to the research program at the University of Kentucky A.B. Chandler Medical Center and will be cremated at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

Rose

Robert Hold "Bob" Rose, 67, of Lawrenceburg, husband of Lou Elane Towles Rose, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004.

He was a member and overseer of Hope Community Church and a retired 42 year supervisor at Quebecor World in Versailles.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Kelly Rose, Dry Ridge, Harry Rose, Danville, and Steve Rose, Lawrenceburg; five grandchildren, Callie and Tanner Rose, Dry Ridge, Anna Grace Rose, Danville, and Katelin Rose, Lawrenceburg, and Justin and Sandy Derringer, Lawrenceburg; three great-grandchildren, Rachelle Broughton and Ashlyn and Darion Derringer; and a sister, Jean Curry, Frankfort. A brother, Jimmy Rose, is deceased.

Services were conducted Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home.

Wellman

Madie Marsee Wellman, 82, of Versailles, wife of Ferrell P. Wellman, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at St. Joseph Hospital.

Born in Whitley County, she was the daughter of the late James and Rose Marsee. She was a graduate of Evarts High School, a homemaker, a charter member of the King's Daughters Hospital Women's Auxiliary, Ashland, and a charter member of the University of Kentucky A.B. Chandler Medical Center Women's Auxiliary, Lexington. She was a member of the Lexington Woman's Club and the Lafayette Club.

In addition to her husband, he is survived by a son, Ferrell Wellman, Versailles; two grandsons, Dale Wellman, Richmond, and Chad Wellman, Lexington; three sisters; and two brothers. Three sisters and four brothers are deceased.

A graveside service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery by Dr. Woody Berry. No public visitation is planned. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, is in charge of the arrangements.

Wise

Rachel Ann Wise, of Georgetown, wife of Ray Wise, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Georgetown Community Hospital.

Born in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late John and Annie Hansel Foley. She was a former employee of Rand McNally (Quebecor World) in Versailles.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five daughters: Edith Manns, Versailles, Margaret Couch, Versailles, Karen Liddle, Woodstock, Ga., Faye Wooldridge, Frankfort, and Patricia Wise, Lexington; a son, Philip Wise, Lexington; a sister, Susie Vickers, Versailles; a brother, Raymond Foley, Versailles; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A son, Steven Wise, is deceased.

Services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Gary Maynard. Interment was in the Rose Crest Cemetery. Casket bearers were Joe Manns, Tom Liddle, Scotty Wooldridge, Willard Couch, Carl Smith and Steve Smith. Honorary bearers were Danny Couch, Ryan Couch, Derek Couch, and Steven Owens.
