Evans

Helen Louise Evans, 85, of Wilmore, wife of Bob Evans, died Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at the St. Joseph Hospital.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Helen Leichman Hebbeler. She was a graduate of Otterbein College and retired as a school teacher in the Oak Hills School District in Cincinnati, Ohio.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Tom (Pam) Evans and Bob (Tracie) Evans, both of Versailles.

Her body was donated to science with the Wright State University Body Bequeathal Program. A private remembrance of life will be held at her son’s farm in Versailles. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, is in charge of arrangements.

Gravitt

Forrest G. "Sonny" Gravitt, 88, of Lexington, husband of Thelma Ritchie Gravitt, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at his residence.

Born Oct. 10, 1921, in Woodford County, he was the son of the late John Dewey and Annetta Brown Gravitt. He was a member of Tates Creek Christian Church.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, he is survived by three sons, Barry W. (Brenda), Dean (Terri), and Daryl K. (Dorenda) Gravitt; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a brother, Jack W. (Mary) Gravitt.

Services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Main Street, Lexington. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

Hartley

Ruth Perry Hartley, 85, of Versailles, widow of William A. Hartley, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2009.

Born April 14, 1924, in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late William Hiter and Minnie Redding Perry. She was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church and a retired employee of Texas Instruments.

Survivors include a daughter, Laura Hartley Ritchey, Versailles; a son, David Allen Hartley, Versailles; three grandchildren, Kristi (Dewayne) Reed, Brock (Courtney) Ritchey, and Philip (Stephanie) Ritchey; and two great-grandchildren, Kody Ritchey and Riley Joseph.

Services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, by the Rev. John Brandon and the Rev. Michael Cabell. Burial was in the Versailles Cemetery. Casket bearers were Brock and Philip Ritchey, George, Patrick and Emily Perry, Dewayne Reed, and Roy Lancaster. Honorary bearers were the Friendship Sunday school class, Martha Dempsey, Roger and Orella Bennett, Mary Jane Sanderson, and Belinda Alexander.

Martin

Patricia Watlington Martin,76, of Salvisa, widow of Jack Cornelius Martin, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at her home.

Born in Hardinsburg, she was the daughter of the late John Russell and Claudine Peggs Watlington. She was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and had earned a Ph.D. from Yale University in 1964. She was a retired college professor, a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Versailles, and attended St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Harrodsburg.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Versailles by Fr. Jay Pierce. A reception will follow services at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. John’s Episcopal Church, Versailles, or St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Harrodsburg.

Schlernitzauer

Terry Sue Schlernitzauer, 56, of Lexington, wife of Johnnie Schlernitzauer, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at the Hospice Care Center.

Born in Versailles, she was the daughter of the late Foster and Eilene Cox Whitlock. She had been employed by Dupree and Company for 27 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Daniel Schlernitzauer; and two sisters, Jennie Hull-Cannon and Kim (John) Dolan.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, by Dr. David Blondell. Burial will follow in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, and 10 a.m. Saturday until service time.

Schulman

Janet Allinson Schulman, 98, of Versailles, wife of Gershon Schulman, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009.

Born Feb. 8, 1911, in New Haven, Conn., she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Lena Berman Allinson. She was a registered nurse at the Yale Hospital in New Haven, Conn.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Norman Schulman.

Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Rose Crest Cemetery. Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, was in charge of the arrangements.

Soard

Celestine Soard, 85, of Lexington, widow of William "Bill" Soard, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009.

Born Dec. 6, 1924, in Versailles, she was the daughter of the late Edna Rarden and John W. King. She had been a member of South Elkhorn Baptist Church for 56 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Celeste Donice (Robert) Scott, Lexington; a son, Glenn Ray (Sally) Soard, Lexington; six grandchildren, Alekzander Scott, Jessika Scott, Steve (Kelli) Soard, Scott (Emily) Soard, Jeff (Mindy) Soard, and Cindy (Bill) Fife; and 10 great-grandchildren, Addison, Brayden, Maddie, Mia, Will, Bailey, Kelsey, Eli, Abby and Casey. A daughter, Connie Marie Soard, and a son, Gregory Dean Soard, are deceased.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, at Clark Legacy Center in Brannon Crossing, Nicholasville, followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. conducted by Dr. Damon Jones. Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 2, at the Versailles Cemetery.
