Ammerman

Joseph Leaman Ammerman, 67, of Frankfort, husband of Katherine Tandy Ammerman, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at his home after a long illness.

Born on April 7, 1942, in Troy, Ala., he was the son of the late Dr. Claude and Coral Glass Ammerman. He was a member of Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Gaye (David) Simpson and Dede (Glenn) Johnson; five grandchildren, Nicole Dempsey, Tandy (William) Hubbard, Leslie (Grant) Wonderlich, Amanda Dempsey, and Jessica Johnson; and two great grandsons. A brother, Claude Ammerman Jr., is deceased.

Services were conducted Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Frankfort Cemetery by the Rev. Wallace Kent. Mr. Ammermanís grandchildren served as casket bearers. Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road, Frankfort, was in charge of arrangements.

Brown

George B. Brown Sr., 77, of Frankfort, husband of Luzerne Swain Brown, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at his home.

He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahís Witnesses. He retired from the V.A. Hospital in Lexington after 28 years of service.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, three daughters, 19 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Service were conducted Saturday, Feb. 6, at Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road, Frankfort, by Brother Corey Sanders. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Coovert

Emma Lillian Coovert, of Versailles, daughter of Felicia Drennan and Steven Coovert, died at birth on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at the St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sister, Brianna Coovert; her maternal grandmother, Dawn Wilson, Versailles; maternal great-grandmother, Paula Black, Versailles; and paternal grandparents, Diane and Mike Martin, Versailles. A brother, Douglas Coovert, is deceased.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, Feb. 8, at the Versailles Cemetery by the Rev. Frankie Layne.

Hawkins

Janice Hawkins, 67, of Frankfort, widow of James Hawkins, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010.

A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of Vannie and Dorothy Masters Collins. She was an employee of Concord Custom Cleaners and a member of First Nazarene Church.

In addition to her mother and father, she is survived by a daughter, Susan McElroy, Frankfort; a son, Steven McElroy, Frankfort; three grandchildren, Derek McElroy, Erek McElroy, both of Frankfort, and Brandon Scott, Ohio; a great-grandchild, Gabriel McElroy, Frankfort; a sister, Sharon Case, Winchester; and a brother, Logan Collins, Shelbyville.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road, Frankfort, by the Rev. Todd Lester. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers were Derek McElroy, Erek McElroy, Kermit Caudill, Brandon Scott, Jimmy Stamper, Iver Standard, and Tony Bowman.

Moreland

Ellen Moreland, 98, of Frankfort, widow of James Moreland, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010.

She was a member of Arlington Christian Church in Lexington.

Survivors include a son, Barry (Madonna) Moreland, Frankfort; two granddaughters, Tracy Davis and Kristin Pickard; and four great-grandchildren, Barry Nathan Davis Jr., Haley Davis, Seth Pickard, and MacKenzie Pickard.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road, Frankfort, by Pastor Kristen Bentley. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers were Barry Davis, Nathan Davis, Seth Pickard, and Rusty Pickard.

Leigh

Jimmie B. Leigh, 70, of Versailles, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010.

Born April 8, 1939, in Woodford County, he was the son of the late Carles and Bessie Stewart Leigh. He served with the U.S. Air Force and was a mechanic.

Survivors include two sons, William "Bubby" Banks and Luther Luke Bromagen; three sisters, Loretta (Leon) Sims, Linda (Seldon) Watkins, and Brenda Sizemore, all of Versailles; and a brother, Donald (Ruth) Leigh, Richmond. A sister, Patricia Current, and a brother, Carlos Leigh, are deceased.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at Rose Crest Cemetery by Don Leigh. Casket bearers will be Greg Leigh, Glen Berger, Carl Kratzer, Kelly Kratzer, Bobby Stewart, and Ricky Woods. Honorary bearers will be Sue McClain, Seldon Watkins, Leon Sims, and Bonnie Banks. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 11, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill. Condolences may be made at www.clarkfuneralchapels.com.

 

Smith

Jefferson Davis Smith III, 80, of Frankfort, husband of Marjorie Joyce Smith, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010.

Born in Versailles, he was the son of the late Jefferson Davis Smith Jr. and Pearl King Smith. He was a retired farmer and businessman.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Marguerite Smith Bratton; a son, Jefferson D. Smith IV; two sisters, Dorothy Smith Meyer and Peggy Smith Jones; two granddaughters, Laura Bratton and Maranda Smith Richmond; a great-grandson, Leland Touchtone; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted Sunday, Feb. 7, at Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road, Frankfort. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
