Bowman

Willis "Bill" Bowman, 65, of Frankfort, husband of Beulah Bowman, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009.

Born Nov. 16, 1943, in Owsley County, he was the son of Elva Bowman of Booneville and the late Warren G. Bowman. He was a horse trainer at the Waterwild Farm.

In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by a daughter, Evie (Danny) Marcum, Stamping Ground; a son, Randall Bowman, Frankfort; two grandchildren, Christina Marcum and Cody DJ Malicote; four sisters, Ada Sims, Warsaw, Juanita Kendall, Carrollton, Phyllis Campbell, Warsaw, and Betty Oliver, Booneville; four brothers, J.C. Bowman, Nicholasville, Dennis Bowman, Booneville, Dorsey Bowman, Corinth, and Keith Bowman, Booneville. A sister, Wanda Sims, is deceased.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road, Frankfort, by Pastor David Rayborn. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers will be Steve Foster, Josh Kelly, Adam Turner, Christopher Thomas, Justin Hendrix, Todd Wiley, and Cody DJ Malicote. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday. Bradley

Morgan Joseph Bradley, 89, of Versailles, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Bluegrass Community Hospital.

Born in Mississippi, he was the son of the late Beaureguard and Estelle Lizana Bradley. He was a member of Our Mother of Mercy Church of Pass Christian. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired as a chef for Big Sink Farm in Versailles.

Survivors include three daughters, Jonell Bradley Raglin, Versailles, Phyllis (Donald) Wilson, Lexington, and Evelyn Marsh, Texas; three sons, Morgan Bradley Jr., Versailles, David Bradley, Frankfort, and Walter Printers, Boston; a special grandson, Ryan Howard; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Two sons, Danny Bradley and Russell Bradley, are deceased.

A visitation was held Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Townsend and the Rev. Richard Gaines officiating. Fr. Dan Noll conducted a private Mass at an earlier time and a private funeral service followed the visitation. Interment will be in Delisle Cemetery St. Stephens in Mississippi at a later date. Honorary casket bearers will be Michael Wilson, Ryan Howard, Stanley Bradley, Donald Wilson, Brandon Claxton, Bryan Bradley, Eric Bradley, James Greene, Butch Murrell, Jeff Johnson, Mike Harrison, and Herbert Reed.

Combs

Gladys Combs, 93, of Versailles, formerly of Hazard, widow of Paul Combs, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Taylor Manor Nursing Home.

Survivors include a son, Aubrey Combs, Louisville; a daughter, Lois Dean (Wendell) Combs, Versailles; six granddaughters; and 11 great-grandchildren. A daughter-in-law, Marla Combs, is deceased.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Maggard Brothers Funeral Home in Hazard. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery, Hazard.

Memorials are suggested to Taylor Manor Nursing Home, 300 Berry Avenue, Versailles, KY 40383.

 

Gorham

Robert L. Gorham, 79, of Lexington, husband of Mary Evelyn Amburgey Gorham, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

A native of Scott County, he was the son of the late Onie and Jewell Gaines Gorham. He was an Air Force veteran, a retired manager for GTE Sylvania Corp., and was a member of Broadway Christian Church and the Bluegrass Lodge # 956, F. & A. M.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lou Ann (David) Sunley, Lexington; a son, David (Lynn) Gorham, Crawfordville, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Sherry (Wayne) Newton, Versailles; a stepson, Les Amburgey (Rose) Nicholasville; three grandchildren, Chris (Ashley) Lathrem and Cole and Mallory Sunley; three step-grandchildren, Christel Amburgey, David Newton, and Jennifer Newton; a sister, Betty MacElroy, Clearwater, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. His children’s mother, Jo Ann Atkinson Gorham, is deceased.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 19, at Johnson’s Funeral Home, Georgetown, by Minister Jim Bird and Minister Craig Yates. Burial will be in the Lexington Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Chris Lathrem, Cole Sunley, Jimmy Webster, Dwight Sontag, Jack Cheek, David Deaton, Brian Harding, and Frankie Woodson.

Expressions of Sympathy may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass or Broadway Christian Church.

 

Miller

Richard B. Miller Jr., 84, of Versailles, widower of Cinda Lou Miller, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born March 8, 1925, in Wellsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Richard B. Miller Sr. He had been employed in the lumber industry for many years and was a World War II and Korean War veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Powell Miller, Florida; a son, Richard Lewis (Jane D.) Miller, Versailles; a brother, Charles Miller, Georgia; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth Jane Miller, Samantha Powell Miller, and Ian Michael Miller, all of Versailles.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 19, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Versailles.

Memorials are suggested to the Woodford Humane Society or Woodford County Senior Citizens.

Myhre

Gordon Myhre, 73, of Versailles, husband of Mary Ann Myre, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009.

Born in Baker, Mont., he was the son of the late Helen and Orville C. Myhre. He enjoyed playing golf, reading, traveling and playing with his grandchildren. He was a 35 year employee of the V.A. Hospital in Lexington, where he had served as associate hospital director. He was also a Korean War veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He worked at the Woodford Hills Country Club for the past 10 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Joy (Jason) Henson, Lexington, and Karen (David) Venis, Versailles; three sons, Scott (Erin) Myhre, Lexington, Gregory (Amy) Myhre, Wisconsin; and Craig Myhre, England; and eight grandchildren, Madison Henson, Ella Myhre, Dylan Venis, Jennifer Myhre, Hannah Myhre, Abby Myhre, Greg Myhre, and Nicolas Myre. A sister, Lois, is deceased.

A Reflection of Life service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Clark Legacy Center by Fr. Dan Noll. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 p.m. until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Leo’s Capital Campaign or Hospice of the Bluegrass.

Padilla

Francisco Padilla, 29, of Versailles, husband of Gabriela Padilla, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, of injuries received in a vehicle accident.

Born July 5, 1979, in Aguascalientes, Mexico, he was the son of Juan Padilla and the late Refugia Martinez Padilla. He was an employee of Three Chimneys Farm.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Emeli Guadalupe Padilla and Jocelyn Padilla.

Perry

Kenneth Martin Perry, 64, of Stamping Ground, husband of Ellen Connington Perry, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009. Born Sept. 11, 1944, in Scott County, he was the son of Opal Abrams Perry and the late Orville Lee Perry. He was a retired employee from IBM, a farmer, and president of the Kentucky Horse Krushu. He was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame in 1994, an All World softball pitcher and twice All World Softball Third Baseman.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by four children, Marty Perry, Versailles, Dale Lee Perry, Frankfort, Melanie Lucas, Georgetown, and Tim Hanks, Paris; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald Perry, Lebanon, and Lynn Perry, Stamping Ground; and a sister, Jean Graves, Frankfort.

Graveside services were conduced Friday, Feb. 13, at the Masonic Cemetery by the Rev. Stephen Bruce. Casket bearers were Marty Perry, Dale Perry, Tim Hanks, Jamie Graves, Steve Graves, and Matthew Lucas. Tucker, Yocum, & Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Roach

Evelyn Louise Thomas Roach, 89, of Frankfort, widow of Eugene Roach, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009.

Born June 2, 1919, in Ohio County, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Josephine Warren Thomas. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Gene T. (Roberta) Roach, Frankfort; two grandchildren, Tom (Sonia) Roach and Becky (Gregg) Stratton; six great-grandchildren, Aaron and Jacob Stratton, Madalin Roach, Spencer, Samuel and Savannah Stratton; and two sisters, Sarah Barnes and Wilma Thomas, both of Tennessee. A brother, Edward Thomas, is deceased.

A graveside service was conducted Monday, Feb. 16, at Sunset Memorial Gardens by Wayde Miller. Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road, Frankfort, was in charge of arrangements.

Sloan

Virginia Lynn Brown Combest Sloan, 92, of Lexington, widow of Norman Ray Combest and John M. "Sonny" Sloan, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009.

The daughter of the late Theopolis and Leeta Mae Brown, she was a member of Meadowthorpe Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Gordon Ray Combest (Nancy), Mt. Holly, N.C., and John Carl Combest (Yvonne), Alcoa, Tennessee; a stepson, John M. Sloan Jr. (Sharon), Versailles; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services were conducted Friday, Feb. 13, at the W.R. Milward Mortuary, Southland. Burial was in the Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
