Asher Dorothy Lane Asher 86, widow of Howard Turner Asher, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Taylor Manor Nursing Home in Versailles. She was born in Versailles on Feb. 22, 1922, the daughter of the late Ollie and Linda Lane and was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church. Mrs. Asher’s true passion in life was the love and care she devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and extended family for the past 60 years. Mrs. Asher’s home, heart and arms were always open to the ones she loved. Her gentle soul and loving heart were enough to bring a smile to a stranger’s face. Mrs. Asher will be truly missed, but never forgotten. She is survived by her two daughters, Pat Asher (Russell) Foley and Judy Asher-Conners, both of Versailles; her son, Michael (Cathy) Asher, Lexington; six grandchildren, Rebecca Jackson (Jermaine), Michelle Irvin (Jason), Austin Asher, Joshua Asher, Drew Conners, all of Lexington, and Adam Asher Conners, Cincinnati; three great-grandchildren, Caleb Joy, Isaiah Joy and Cameron Irvin. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra O’Hara Asher. Private services were held. Born Nov. 9, 1920, he was the son of the late Guy Worth Bartlett Sr. and Belle Elizabeth Adams Bartlett of Versailles. He retired from the Prudential Insurance Company, where he worked for 32 years. He was a member of the Tates Creek Presbyterian Church and was a 60 year member of the Robert M. Sirkle Masonic Lodge #954, F&AM. Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Elizabeth Bartlett Lytle; a granddaughter, Sara Elizabeth Tomelin; two grandsons, Michael Andrew Tomelin and Eric Thomas Tomelin, Fort Mitchell; and a brother, John Layton Bartlett, Oklahoma. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Tates Creek Presbyterian Church by the Rev. John Sartelle. Casket bearers will be Judge James Keller, Bill Servant, Dan Terhune, Dr. Dave Randall, Jim Burkhart, and Charlie Taylor. The Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. W.R. Milward Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the Bluegrass. Duncan Lucy J. Duncan, 54, of Versailles, wife of Donald W. Duncan, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Born Nov. 28, 1954, in Clay County, she was the daughter of Lottie Morgan of London and the late Hobert Simpson. She was an employee of OSRAM Sylvania in Versailles. In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by three daughters, Leeann Duncan, Frankfort, Patty Fay Warfield, Versailles, and Jane Ann Rust, Greensburg, Ind.; two sisters, Evelyn Ritchey, Lexington and Irene McFarland, London; four brothers, Eugene Simpson, Jamestown, Robert Simpson, Erlanger, Junior Simpson, London, and James Simpson, Chillicothe, Ohio; and nine grandchildren. Hulker Vivian Black Hulker, 84, of Frankfort, widow of Chester Franklin Black and Leonard Joe Hulker, died Friday, Jan, 9, 2009. Born Feb. 28, 1924, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late William and Stella Whitehouse Sudduth. She was retired from Kentucky state government, having worked in the Administrative Office of the Courts. She was of the Christian faith. Survivors include a daughter, Priscilla Black, Frankfort; a son, Chester Clay Black (Kimberly), Frankfort; a sister, Louise Sudduth, Frankfort; six grandchildren, Lori (Kevin) Flanery, Cade (Jean) Black, Dana (Mike) Nickles, Tara Black, Ryan (Heather) Black, and Raven Black; nine great-grandchildren; three nieces; and a nephew. A son, Larry Ray Black; two sisters, Ethel Sudduth and Elsie Moore; and a brother, Hansel "Pete" Sudduth, are deceased. Services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road, Frankfort, by Bessie Redden. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Longenecker Geoffrey Herr Longenecker, 62, of Versailles, husband of Sara Fish Longenecker, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at his residence. He was the son of Herbert Eugene Longenecker and the late Jane Seeger Longenecker. In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by a daughter, Jane Longenecker King, Arizona; two sons, Geoffrey H. Longenecker Jr., California, and David E. Longenecker, Danville. Memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at St. John’s Episcopal Church by Fr. Alan Sutherland. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Episcopal Church. Born Jan. 1, 1936, in Breathitt County, she was the daughter of the late Matt and Lula Johnson. She graduated from Woodford County High School and the Appalachian School of Nursing. She was a retired nurse from Good Samaritan Hospital. In addition to her husband of 49 years, she is survived by a son, Beechem Kelly Robbins Jr. (Lisa), Versailles; a daughter, Debra Robbins Cummins (Billy), Versailles; seven grandchildren, Beechem Kelly Robbins III, Douglas Robbins, Matthew Robbins, Jennifer Cummins Yann (TJ), Sean Cummins (Tiffany), Maggie Sizemore, and Mandi Sizemore; five great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Anne Yann, Beechem Kelly Robbins IV, Jackson Thomas Yann, Cole Cummins, and Dais Aiden Stephens, all of Versailles; two siblings, Mable Fern Johnson, Lexington, and Paul Johnson, Gilbert, S.C. A brother, Stanley Johnson, is deceased. Services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home,- Main Street, by the Rev. Ron Cook. Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery. Smedley Hazel Smedley, 91, widow of William Smedley, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at Bradford Square Nursing Home in Frankfort. Born in Midway, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Dolly Riddle. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Baptist Church. Survivors include her children, Patsy (Chester) Watson, Frankfort, Jerry Smedley, Gay (Arliss) Stewart, Janice D’Acquisdo, Ronnie (Marilyn) Smedley, and Jana (Tom) Riley, all of Lexington; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Evans. A son, Larry Smedley, is deceased. Graveside services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 10, at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Main Street, Lexington, was in charge of arrangements. Trimble William Henry Trimble, 83, of Denniston, husband of Carma Helton Trimble, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009. Born in March 8, 1925, in Middletown, Ohio, he was the son of the late Kelly and Cynthia Ratliff Trimble. He was a member of the Tarr Ridge Union Church, a farmer and a Menifee County school bus driver for 25 years. In addition to his wife of 65 years, he was survived by a son, J. D. (Lucille), Denniston; a daughter, Margaret (Robert) Issac, Mt. Sterling; three grandchildren, Robin Kier, Mt. Sterling, Jami (Brian) Miller, Versailles, and Jimmy (Natasha) Trimble, Frenchburg; four great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Kier, Brandy Kier, Kyle Miller, and Travis Trimble.
