Beatty Aaron V. "Bunny" Beatty Sr., 78, of Lexington, widower of Lennis T. Beatty, died Friday, July 10, 2009, at the St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. Born April 2, 1931, in Woodford County, he was the son of the late Lonnie and Georgetta Beatty. A member of New Vine Baptist Church, Fort Spring, he was a retired truck driver, farm manager, and farmer. Survivors include four children, Aaron (Aaronetta) Beatty Jr., Yvonne (Donnie) Coulter, Garrette (Lenis) Beatty, and Timothy Beatty, and a grandson, Timothy Webb-Beatty (Elizabeth), all of Lexington; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lula Gillispie, Dayton, Ohio, and Alice Golden, Lexington; and two brothers, William (Pauline) Beatty and Willard (Josephine) Beatty, Lexington. Nine siblings are deceased. Services were conducted Wednesday, July 15, at New Vine Baptist Church. Interment was in the New Vine Baptist Church Cemetery. Blair Albert Lee Blair, 75, of Lexington, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Homestead Nursing Home. A native of Versailles, he was the son of the late Henri and Sarah E. Blair. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army (Korean Conflict), retired from Square D, and a member of the First Baptist Church, Bracktown, where he served as deacon and trustee. Survivors include a son, Barney M. Blair, Lexington; three grandchildren, Barshaunna (Kenny) Windom and Brandon and D’Shawn Turner, Harrisburg, Pa.; three sisters, Georgia Simmons, Frankfort, Rosa (George) Johnson and Iva T. Blair (Russell) Thornton, Versailles; a brother, the Rev. James A. Blair, Versailles; and several uncles, aunts, and several generations of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be conducted at 12 p.m. today, Thursday, July 16, at the First Baptist Church, Bracktown, 3217 Bracktown Lane, Lexington. Burial with military honors will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service today at the church. O. L. Collins Cheryl Ann Scott Collins, 41, of Midway, died Thursday, July 2, 2009, in Lowndes County, Ga., in a motor vehicle accident along with her children MaRhonda Collins and Auguste Roberts, and her boyfriend Jerome Roberts. Born Aug. 17, 1967, in Lexington, she was the daughter of William Ray Scott, LaGrange, and Shirley Burton Scott, Berea. Survivors include a son, Carl Collins Jr., Midway; two grandchildren, Chloe Ann Root and Cali Beth Collins; and eight siblings, Ray Scott, Stamping Ground, Vicki Holder, Pennsylvania, and Mary Scott, Pauline Inman, Billy Scott, Rebecca Lloyd, Joey Scott, and Eugene Holder, all of Georgetown. Services were conducted Sunday, July 12, at Tucker, Yocum, & Wilson Funeral Home, Georgetown, by Pastor Rodney Goodlett and the Rev. Connie Jackson. Collins MaRhonda Joy Collins, 20, of Midway, died Thursday, July 2, 2009, in Lowndes County, Ga., in a motor vehicle accident along with her mother, Cheryl Collins, and sister Auguste Roberts. Born Dec. 19, 1988, in Mt. Sterling, she was the daughter of Carl Collins Sr. and the late Cheryl Collins. She was a student at the University of Kentucky, attended Trinity Assembly of God, and was a graduate of Scott County High School, where she obtained the Governor Honor Award, Perfect Attendance Award and was on the High School honor roll. During high school she was active in FCCIA, Beta Club, HOSA, and Key Club. She enjoyed doing volunteer work throughout the community. She worked for Kids World Camp for two years, and played parks and recreation softball and basketball. In addition to her father, she is survived by her stepmother, Tiffany Collins, Midway; her fiancé, William Ruth, Stamping Ground; a brother, Carl Collins Jr., Midway; a sister, Katie Collins, Midway; and her grandparents, William Ray Scott, LaGrange, and Shirley Burton Scott, Berea. Colt Tricia Pritchard Colt, 66, of Versailles, died Thursday, June 30, 2009. Born Nov. 12, 1942, in Gaffney, S.C., she was the daughter of Freeling Tufts Colt and Margaret Pardee Colt. She grew up in Pocopson, Pa., and graduated from the Tower Hill School in Wilmington, Del. After graduating from Mount Holyoke College, she worked for Time Magazine in New York as an editorial assistant and then researcher. She held a variety of positions in journalism, advertising and television production in locations from New York to Honolulu, and Sydney, Australia. She ran a broodmare farm for John Singleton, owner of Magic Millions Sales Co. in Australia. She moved to Lexington and Versailles in the late 1980s, where she pursued the business of breeding and racing horses in partnership with Nancy Jacobs of Charlotte, S.C. She enjoyed blue heeler dogs and was a marathon runner, running six miles a day until contracting leukemia. Survivors include three brothers, Blaise Colt, Frisco, Colo., Edward Hughes, Philadelphia, Pa., and Samuel Hughes, Narberth, Pa.; three nieces, Caroline Colt, Kimberly Colt, and Hillary Colt-Cahan; two nephews, Tristan Hughes and Jesse Hughes; two aunts, Toby Colt and Patricia Gardner; and her ex-husband, Jay Mcelroy. A memorial service is planned for Oct. 12 in the Keeneland Race Course Paddock. A celebration of her life will follow at the Thoroughbred Club. Dills Carla Dills, 52, of Versailles, assistant director of the Woodford County Library, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 18, at the Dry Ridge Christian Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 17, at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Dison Claude "Bubba" Dison, 51, of Versailles, husband of Myra Dison, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009. Born May 9, 1958, in Nashville, Tenn., he was the son of the late Claude Vernon Dison Sr. and Geraldine Maddox Dison. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jeff Hale, Nashville; and three sisters, Judith and Janet Gurney, Smyrna, Tenn., and Trina Dison, Nashville, Tenn.
Flora Melvin Owen Flora, 93, of Versailles, a prominent Woodford County farmer, husband of Florence Shryock Flora, died Saturday, July 11, 2009. Born June 23, 1916, in Woodford County, he was the son of the late Claude and Bessie Holman Flora. He was former recipient of the Pioneer Farmer award and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was an ordained deacon and member of the New Hope Baptist Church. In addition to his wife of 72 years, he is survived by a sister, Ora Pearl Sewell; three children, Bobby (Pat) Flora, Barbara (William) Drury, and Gary (Marilyn) Flora; eight grandchildren, Keith (Joy) Flora, Sharon (Jay) Jackman, Rhonda (Dewayne) Coleman, Barry (Regina) Drury, Angela (Allen) Dobson, Cheryl (Blaine) Peach, Melvin (Leslie) Drury, and Brennan Flora; 12 great-grandchildren, Josh, Amber, and Darion Flora, Derek Hartley, Kasey Thompson, Elizabeth Crews, Brandon and Kelsey Drury, Aliona and Melvin Drury II, and Jeremy and Taylor Peach; and three great-great-grandchildren. Services were conducted Tuesday, July 14, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Wesley Noss. Interment was in the Versailles Cemetery. Casket bearers were his grandsons and the husbands of his granddaughters. Montague Howard Bradford Montague, 97, a longtime Woodford County farmer and community leader, died Thursday, July 9, 2009, at the University of Kentucky A.B. Chandler Medical Center. Born Aug. 26, 1911, in Woodford County, he was the son of the late William Henry and Rebecca Crutcher Montague. A member of the First Christian Church of Versailles, Howard graduated from the Versailles High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He had received several farm awards, was a past president and part owner of the New Link Tobacco Warehouse Company, and was the last surviving member of the beginning board of directors of the United Bank and Trust Company of Versailles and Midway. He served on the Woodford County Board of Education for 24 years and was chairman for 20 years. In his beginning years on the board, there were three school systems in the county – Woodford County, Versailles, and Midway. He served on the board of directors of the Cleveland Home for 21 years, was a former member of the Woodford Hospital board of directors, a former member of the Lexington Tobacco Board of Trade, was a charter member of the Versailles Kiwanis Club, and was a Kentucky Colonel. Mr. Montague was known for his good works throughout the community, works for which he preferred not to be recognized publicly, according to friend and fellow Kiwanis Club member Ken Reed. "He was just a wonderful, wonderful person," Reed said. "There’s just no way to replace someone like that. People have no idea how much he did for the people of Woodford County." Reed attributed Mr. Montague’s longevity on the board of education to his desire to see students in Woodford County succeed and prosper. "He deeply cared for young people," Reed said. Survivors include a nephew, Jim (Teresa) Hoppin, Midway; and four nieces, Jane (Jerry) Bennett, Lawrenceburg, Nancy (Mike) Bradley, Versailles, Judy Montague, Lexington, and Susan (Bill) Pardue, Henderson. A brother, Newland C. Montague, and three sisters, Marian Frances Montague, Willie Mae Montague Stephenson, and Jane Montague Hoppin, are deceased. Services were conducted Saturday, July 11, at the First Christian Church. Burial was in the Frankfort Cemetery. Casket bearers were his nephews, Casey Bennett, Andy Bradley, Scott Bradley, Kenneth Hoppin, Tad Pardue, Jeff Searcy, and John Searcy. Rakes Linda Charles Rakes, 61, of Lexington, wife of Jerry Hadden, died Friday, July 10, 2009. A native of Marion County, she was born July 30, 1947, the daughter of Charles and Lavanna Rakes. She was employed by the University of Kentucky President Commissions, was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, a graduate of Lebanon High School and attended Eastern Kentucky University. In addition to her husband, she is survived by Danny Smith, Midway, the father of her children; three daughters, Kelly (Donald) Mitchell, Midway, Kristi (Dennis) Grubbs, Danville, and Amy (Kevin) Althouse, Pa.; a sister, Frankee Rakes Brady, Louisville; and five grandchildren, Logan Mitchell, Mia and Charli Grubbs, and Emily and Andrew Althouse. Born Aug. 27, 1998, in Lexington, she was a student at Northside Elementary School in Midway, and attended Trinity Assembly of God along with her sister. Survivors include three brothers, Carl Collins Jr., Midway, and Joshua Roberts and Dillion Roberts, both of Lexington; and her grandparents, Bill and Helen Roberts. Waters Agnes Waters, 90, of Frankfort, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009. Born Sept. 4, 1918, in Hanley, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth Jarrett Taylor. She was a caregiver, a member of New Life Worship Center in Frankfort, and a member of the Pentecostal Church of Christ in Flatwoods. Survivors include a daughter, Mollie Adkins, Frankfort; a son, R. Gene (Phyllis) Roberts, Frankfort; four grandchildren, Melissa (Jimmy) Patillo, Frankfort, Michael T. (Kelly) Adkins, Richmond, Debbie (Bruce) Stevens, Flatwoods, and Donna (Clifford) Bradley, Versailles; three great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mollie Evans and Retta White, both of Russell. Services were conducted Monday, July 13, at the Pentecostal Church of Christ in Flatwoods by the Rev. D.C. Chambers, the Rev. Sue Chambers, and the Rev. Vernell Ingle.
