Barker

David Lee Barker, 53, of Nicholasville, a construction carpenter, died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at his home.

He was the son of the late Boyd Linville and Daisy Lee Lunsford Barker.

Survivors include a daughter, Crystal McCubbin, Winchester; a sister, Billie Kershburgin, Michigan; three brothers, Wayne L. Barker, Versailles, Kenneth Johnson, Nicholasville, and James Johnson, Lexington; and two granddaughters.

Craig

Joseph Craig, 78, of Lexington, husband of Jean Davis Craig, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at his residence.

Born in Woodford County, he was the son of the late Macey and Elizabeth Breeden Craig. He was a Pepsi Cola distributor and member of Old Union Christian Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Dennis (Barbara) Metzer, Bradenton, Fla., Joe Wayne (Sharon), Mark, and Gary Craig, all of Lexington; four grandchildren, Hunter Craig, Brittany Evans Craig, Justin Metzer, and Micki Woestman; three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Craig, Shirley Craig, and Ruth (Charles) Strickland.

Services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, by Pastor Rick Stone and the Rev. Scott Winkler. Burial will follow in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, July 30, at the funeral home.

 

Miller

Sandra Sue Smith Miller, 70, of Harlan, widow of William E. Miller, has died after a long illness at the home of her sister in Stanton.

The daughter of the late Sue Yarbrough Smith and Ernest H. Smith, she grew up on Green Terrace in Harlan and graduated from Harlan High School in the class of 1957. She was drum major of the school band and member of the Musettes. She won her a first place in the Black Diamond Beauty Pageant and later the same year, 1958, the Miss Kentucky title. After attending the University of Wisconsin, where she became a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, she transferred to the University of Kentucky. While living in North Carolina, she was on the boards of the Winston-Salem Opera, the Greensboro Zoo, along with other charitable organizations. She served on the Asheboro Library Board and supported the local humane society and the preservation of the Blanton Forest. She was an avid gardener and a lifelong member of the Harlan United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Linda (Darryl) Abner, Stanton, Kay Smith, Versailles, and Clay Smith, Versailles; a niece, Dana (James) Yin; and a grand-nephew, Hunter Hill Yin, Moorpark, Calif.

Services were conducted Saturday, July 25, at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home, Harlan, by the Rev. Robert Landis and the Rev. Kyle Burnette. Burial was in the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith.

Murphy

Ja-Maya Marie Murphy, 5 days, daughter of Adora Murphy of Lexington, died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at the University of Kentucky A.B. Chandler Medical Center.

She was the granddaughter of Elizabeth Brooks and James Murphy, both of Lexington, and the great granddaughter of Dora Brooks of Lexington, formerly of Midway.

Services were conducted Tuesday, July 28, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Edgar Wallace. Burial was in the Midway Cemetery.

Sydorchuk

Dennis Sydorchuk, 3, of Lexington, son of Volodymyr and Nadezhda Stets Sydorchuk, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at the University of Kentucky A.B. Chandler Medical Center in Lexington.

He was born in Springfield, Mass., on Feb. 21, 2006.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Nicholas, Max, and Yuriy Sydorchuk.

Services were conducted Saturday, July 25, at St. Andrews Anglican Church in Versailles. Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery. Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, Versailles, was in charge of arrangements.

Tuttle

Judy Lynn Corman Tuttle, 65, of Lexington, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at The Breckinridge.

Born in Wilmore, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Corman and Edna Upton Corman. She was raised by her late grandparents, Hubert "Daddy" Upton and Florence "Granny" Upton. She was a homemaker, medical assistant and office manager and an animal lover. She enjoyed gardening and anything outdoors.

Survivors include two daughters, Julie (Andy) Poplin, Versailles, and Gena (Barry) Bentley, Lexington; a stepdaughter, Sarah Tyler; five grandchildren, Kevin and Carrie Bentley, and Lauren, Chase, and Chelsea Poplin; three brothers, Andy, Jack, and Bill Corman; and her former husband, Gene Webb. A brother, Jim Corman, is deceased.

Services were conducted Friday, July 24, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, by Pastor Doug Simpson. Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery.

Winfield

Virginia "Snooks" Winfield, of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of Versailles, sister of Bernice Bradley, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, in Ohio. O. L. Hughes & Sons Mortuary, Lexington, is in charge of arrangements.
