Edester Margaret Pearl Edester, 86, of Versailles, widow of Leo Edester, died Monday, July 6, 2009, at the Bluegrass Community Hospital in Versailles. Born April 2, 1923, in Olean, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Ben and Pearl Motley. She was a member of the Cramer Hanover Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons, Leo David (Bobbie) Edester, Versailles, and Timothy Banks (Patty) Edester, Danville; a daughter-in-law, Joni Edester, Versailles; and five grandchildren, Jason, Ben, Sean and Hillary Edester, and Kristin Richards. A son, D.A. Edester, is deceased. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, July 8, at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Lexington by Benny Hill. Casket bearers were Jason, Ben, and Sean Edester, Josh Richards, Wayne Hobbs and Dan Moore. Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, was in charge of arrangements. Flynn Gayle Schuler Flynn, 71, of Harrodsburg, wife of Norris "Chigger" Flynn, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, of cancer. The daughter of the late Stanley and Lillie Rankin Schuler, she was a graduate of Henry Clay High School in Lexington, where she was a cheerleader, and attended the University of Kentucky, where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She worked in the UK Statistics Department, Locker Room Sporting Goods, Lexington Federal Savings and Loan, and worked with her husband in his insurance agency. She was a charter member of the Carpenter’s Christian Church, where she served as the vice-president of the Willing Hands ladies’ group. In addition to her husband of 52 years, she is survived by two daughters, Karen Flynn Travis, Chesapeake, Va., and Amy Flynn Aubrey (Ben), Midway; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A son, Kevin lee Flynn, is deceased. Services were conducted Wednesday, July 8, at the Carpenter’s Christian Church, Harrodsburg. Contributions may be made to the Carpenter’s Christian Church. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.ransdellfuneralchapel.com. Gray Lyn "Lynie" Oakley Gray, 37, of Versailles, husband of Kristi Ward Gray, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, in Lexington. Born in Berea, he was the son of Lydia Barton and Lynwood Gray. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two stepdaughters, Savannah and Kennedy Eden, Versailles. A private memorial was held at Sand Gap Christian Church in Sand Gap, Ky. on Sunday, July 5. Donations may be given to the Woodford County D.A.R.E. program. Hollar Oral Hollar Jr., 77, of Versailles, husband of Opal Hollar, died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington. Born in Nicholas County, he was the son of the late Oral and Mary Elizabeth Florence Hollar. He was a member of Kingsway Assembly of God and had retired from Rand McNally Company in Versailles. In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by a daughter, Cheryl (Jerry) Wheeler; a son, Ross (Vicky) Hollar; two sisters, Brenda Hance and Tressia Sampson; and two grandchildren, Tara Wheeler and Beth Cecil. Two brothers, Ralph and Sidney Hollar; and a sister, Trienzi Horn, are deceased. Services were conducted Monday, July 6, at King’s Way Assembly of God by the Rev. Jeff Johnson. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Guest book at www.Blackburnandward.com. Lay Patricia Ann Maynus Lay, 75, of Lexington, wife of James Carson "J.C." Lay, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009. Born on Dec. 22, 1933, in Powelton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Will and Mary Maynus Payne. In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Dixie (Steve) Jones, Versailles; a son, Ronnie (Jerriann) Lay, Lexington; two sisters, Virginia Saylor and Flordia Bullock; two grandchildren, Jamie Lay and Brian Jones; two great-grandchildren, Kailey and Reagan Lay; and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Georgia Anderson; and a brother, James Maynus, are deceased. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. today, Thursday, July 9, at Clark Legacy Center. Owen Geneva "Nanny" Owen, 86, of Versailles, widow of John Owen, died Monday, July 6, 2009. Born Aug. 29, 1922, in Magoffin County, she was the daughter of the late Abel and Laura Howard Crace. She was a longtime member of Pinckard Baptist Church and had resided in Versailles the last 68 years of her life. Survivors include two daughters, Margaret (Edsel) Wainscott and Carolyn (Earl) Cloyd, both of Versailles; three granddaughters, Cheri Spencer and Misty (Walter) Moskovitz, both of Versailles, and Lisa Cloyd, Sellersburg, Ind.; three great-grandchildren, Kelbie Owen, Jadyn Crace Spencer, and Tyler Scott Moskovitz, all of Versailles; and a brother, Ison Crace, Lexington. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Thursday July 9, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, by the Rev. Doug Simpson. Burial will follow at Rose Crest Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Earl Cloyd, Edsel Wainscott, Walter Moskovitz, Darrell Smith, Adam Alexander and Bill Evans. Memorials are suggested to Pinckard Baptist Church. Warnick, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at Bradford Square Nursing Home, Frankfort, following an illness. Born Jan. 8, 1930, in Hardin County, she was was the daughter of the late Albert and Marie Byerly Yates. She was a retired nurse for Hardin Memorial Hospital, Ft. Knox Hospital and Frankfort Regional Medical Center. She received her nursing degree from Bethlehem Academy in Rineyville. She was a member of Kingsway Assembly of God Church, Versailles. Survivors include three sons, Mark Warnick, Frankfort, David Warnick, Elizabethtown, and Todd Warnick, Lexington; two daughters, Lisa Carr, Elizabethtown, and Laura Nordan, Paris; five brothers, Carroll Yates, Louisville, Jimmy Yates, Florida, and Tony Yates, Ronald Yates and Jackie Yates, all of Rineyville; two sisters, Anne Wiseman, Rineyville, and Alice Minter, Lexington; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A brother, Bernard Yates, is deceased. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, July 8, at the family cemetery, Frankfort. Casket bearers were family and friends.
