Eyer Paul Eyer, 67, of Sellersburg, Ind., husband of LaDonna Eyer, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Ind. The son of Anna Katherine Eyer, Sellersburg, Ind., and the late Raymond Paul Eyer, he was a member of the First Assembly of God in New Albany, where he served in the men’s ministries. He enjoyed playing golf, spending time with his grandchildren, and singing in the barbershop choir. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by three sons, Paul Eyer Jr., Anthony (Erica) Eyer, and Jerry (Rachael) Eyer, all of Marion, Ind.; a daughter, DaLonna (Chris) Bush, Sellersburg, Ind.; a brother, Don (Connie) Eyer, Merrillville, Ind.; and 13 grandchildren, Kirstan, Eyer, Dustin Eyer, Michaela Eyer, McKenzie Bush, Jordan Eyer, Drew Bush, Jeremy Eyer, Alex Eyer, Gabi Eyer, Jalynn Eyer, Jhaiden Eyer, Isaiah Eyer, and Ryann Eyer. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, June 18, at the First Assembly of God Church on Charlestown Road in New Albany. Interment will follow in the Sellersburg Cemetery. Condolences may be made at www.garrfuneralservices.com. Devers Danny L. Devers Sr., 64, of Midway, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at the University of Kentucky A.B. Chandler Medical Center in Lexington. Born Jan. 11, 1945, in Midway, he was the son of the late Andy and Minnie Clark Devers Sr. He was a longtime employee of the former Hurstland Farm in Midway and was an NRA member. Survivors include two daughters, Claudia Devers Walker and Danette King, both of Lexington; a son, Danny L. Devers II, Georgetown; two sisters, Betty Davis, Lexington, and Patsy Carpenter, Indiana; a brother, Albert Devers, Lawrenceburg; and six grandchildren. A sister, Sondra Devers, and a brother, Andy Devers II, are deceased. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, June 18, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, by the Rev. Edward Glynn Doss Sr. Burial will follow at the Midway Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time today. Glenn James Francis Glenn, MD, 81, of Versailles, husband of Gay Elste Darsie Glenn, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009. A native of Lexington, he was the son of the late Cambridge F. "Shug" and Martha Morrow Glenn. He was a graduate of Rochester University in 1949 and received his MD from Duke University in 1952. He became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1961 and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (UK) in 1985. He has also received two doctor of sciences degrees, one from the University of Kentucky and the other from Transylvania University. He began his career as a resident in urology at Duke University from 1956 until 1959 when he joined Yale University as assistant professor of urology. In 1961 he became associate professor of urology at Wake Forest University, a post that he held until 1963 when he was named professor and chief of urology at Duke University, a position he held until 1980. From 1980 to 1983 he was professor of urology at Emory University and held the same position at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine from 1983 to 1987. In 1987, he was named professor of surgery and then professor emeritus of surgery at the University of Kentucky. He held administrative appointments as as dean, Emory University School of Medicine, 1980 to 1983; acting dean, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, 1983 to 1984; president, the Mt. Sinai Medical Center, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and Mt. Sinai Hospital, 1983 to 1987; executive director, Markey Cancer Center, UK, 1989 to 1993; associate dean for clinical affairs, UK College of Medicine and chief of staff, University Hospital, 1993 to 1995; and interim chair, department of surgery, UK College of Medicine, 1996 to 1997. His contributions to urology have been published in over 200 peer-reviewed publications and 18 chapters in published texts. He authored "Diagnostic Urology" (Hoeber 1964) and "Glenn’s Urologic Surgery", now in its 6th edition. He is known for the Glenn-Anderson procedure for vesico-ureteral reflux, a correction technique for penoscrotal transposition, an anorchic syndrome definition, and the hormonal management of prostate cancer. He received the Bausch and Lomb Scholarship in 1949, the MD degree summa cum laude in 1952, the Hugh Hampton Medal of the AUA and St. Paul’s Medal of the British Association of Urological Surgeons. He has been president of 11 societies in the field of urology including the AUA, SIU, AAGUS and the SPU and was an honorary member of 14 international societies. In 2007, he was presented the prestigious SIU Felix Guyon Medal at the Opening Ceremonies of the SIU Centennial Congress. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Cambridge Francis (Peggy) Glenn II, Durham, N.C., James Morrison Woodworth Glenn, Denver, Colo., Sara Brooke Glenn, Washington, D.C., and Nancy Carrick Glenn (Richard) Goldner, Durham, N.C.; seven grandchildren; the mother of his children, Gale Morrison Glenn, Durham, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Holiday Glenn, Lexington; and two nieces. A brother, Bruce Goodwin Glenn, and a niece, Brucie Glenn Rowe, are deceased. Services were conducted Sunday, June 14, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Versailles, by the Rev. Alan Sutherland. Marshall Caroline M. Smith Marshall, of Lexington, wife of Gary Marshall, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at the St. Joseph Hospital. Born in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Henry Clay Smith Sr. and Margaret Strange Smith. She was retired from IBM. In addition to her husband of 42 years, she is survived by two sons, Matthew (Lauren) Marshall, Union, and Wesley Kyle Marshall, Lexington; two brothers, W.T. (Joyce) Smith, Lexington, and Henry (Sis) Smith Jr., Versailles; two sisters, Inez (Ted) Burgess, Carlisle, Ohio, and Nancy (Gerald) Phillips, Lexington; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Donald L. Smith, is deceased. Services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. today, Thursday, June 18, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, by the Rev. Kevin Hearn. Raglin The Rev. James Estill "Step" Raglin, 79, of Midway, husband of Elfreda S. Raglin and widower of Shirley Ann Bradley-Raglin, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Taylor Manor Nursing Home after suffering several illnesses. Born Sept. 5, 1929, in Sugar Hill, he was the son of the late John H. and Susie Brooks Raglin. He learned several trades, including farming at King Ranch Farm, hanging wallpaper, cutting hair as a barber, vitamin, insurance, and encyclopedia sales and typewriter assembly at IBM. He entered the ministry on March 12, 1967, and preached his initial sermon on March 22, 1967. He accepted the call to pastor First Baptist Church in Harlan in May of 1970, where he ministered for 15 years. In 1975 he took on a second pastorate with the congregation at Mount Zion, Kenver, where he ministered for 10 years. Upon his return to Midway, he continued to preach around the state and was called to pastor another congregation in November 1995 with Macedonia Baptist Church in Millville, where he led this congregation for nine years until his retirement due to failing health. He was a graduate of Edward Davis High School; Western Kentucky Vocational College, where he studied to be a master barber; Southeast Community College, where he studied organized life threatening illnesses; and Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital, where he studied clinical pastoral education. He was the first African-American to receive several write-in votes for Midway City Council and one for mayor. He served as president of the Midway School PTA, was the first African-American to enroll and graduate from Clear Creek Baptist Bible College. He received his certificate of ordination from Zion Hill Baptist Church on June 2, 1970, was the first black member and president of the Harlan Ministerial Association, and the first black member of the Harlan Kiwanis Club, where he served on the ways and means committee and on the spiritual aim committee. He served on the Harlan City Council’s Citizens Advisory Board, the Child Development Agency Advisory Board, the Christian Family Services Advisory Board, and Morehead State University Campus Advisory Board. He served on the ministerial association and was a past executive board member of the General Association of Baptists in Kentucky and was a Kentucky Colonel. He received a certificate of appreciation from IBM for the saving of an infant child’s life through rescue breathing technique in 1966 and a certificate of completion from Upper Cumberland Association of Baptists Seminary Extension School. He received a sales certification from World Book Encyclopedia and an American Red Cross certificate of recognition for mouth to mouth resuscitation of a choking victim in 1969. In addition to his wife, he is survived by eight children, Johnny Thomas, Glenn Raglin (Terri), Lydia Raglin-Williams (Darryl), Leonard Raglin, Stephanie Raglin, Kelly Raglin (Kathy), Darin Raglin (Teresa), and Shana Raglin; four stepchildren, Donna Miller, Jimmy Smith (Doris), Michael Smith (Deborah), and Sondra Thacker (Robert); 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; four brothers, the Rev. Robert Raglin (Louise), the Rev. Earl Raglin (Anna), the Rev. Bennie Raglin (Ellen), and the Rev. Floyd Raglin (Ollie). A sister, Argie Mae Shackleford, and two brothers, John C. Raglin and the Rev. Thomas E. Raglin, are deceased. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, June 19, at Shiloh Baptist Church, Lexington. Visitation services will be held at Pilgrim Baptist Church, Midway, from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, June 18. Shelton William A. "Foghorn" Shelton, 77, of Frankfort, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009. Born Sept. 1, 1931, in Anderson County, he was the son of the late William Burton and Dolly Masters Shelton. He was a retired truck driver with Yellow Freight and a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Survivors include four daughters, Ina Sue Sloan, Anna Shelton, Cynthia Curry, and Karen Pitt, all of Louisville; five sons, J.D. Hoyt, William Shelton, Tennessee, Frank Shelton, James Shelton, and Charles Shelton, all of Louisville; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Richardson, Lexington, and Joyce Carter and Louise Brewer, both of Ohio; and a brother, James H. Shelton, Ohio. A son, Michael Shelton, is deceased. Graveside services were conducted Monday, June 15, at Sunset Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Robert Tucker. Shuck Jeffery Razz Shuck, 42, of Lexington, formerly of Versailles, husband of Paula Shuck, died suddenly on Friday, June 12, 2009, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Born Dec. 24, 1966, in Lexington, he was the son of Razz and Shirley Wilson Shuck of Versailles. He was a diesel technician at Whayne Supply for the past 10 years and a 1985 Woodford County High School graduate. In addition to his wife and parents he is survived by a son, Thomas Razz Shuck, Lexington; a sister, Julie (Steve) Henehan, Versailles; a brother, Steve Shuck, Lexington; four stepchildren, Tanya, Lloyd and Gerome Davis, and Amber White; nieces and nephews, Patrick, Nolan and Makenna Henehan, all of Versailles, and Andrew and Kristin Shuck, both of Berea; and nine step-grandchildren. Condolences may be made at www.clarkfuneralchapels.com. Smith Duke Smith, 80, of Lexington, husband of Betty Stevens Smith, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at the Central Baptist Hospital. Born Aug. 26, 1926, in Lexington, he was the son of the late Virgil and Annabell Jones Smith. He was retired after 40 years from South Western as field manager. He was most recently employed by Central Kentucky Limousine Association in Versailles, having served many funeral homes throughout central Kentucky. He was a member for over 60 years at David’s Fork Baptist Church, deacon for 35 years and former deacon chairman, a member of the UK 101 Club for 40 years, and board member of the 101 Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Henry (Karen) Stevens, Lexington, and John (Barbara) Kirkham, Hopkinsville; two nephews, Dr. Mark (Dr. Lea) Kirkham, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Steven (Lisa) Kirkham, Nashville, Tenn.; and a niece, Robin (David) Prewitt, Lexington.
