Call

Thomas Lee Call, 74, of Lexington, husband of Jane Moseley Call, died Friday, March 6, 2009, of complications following heart surgery.

Born July 9, 1934, in Elbridge, Tenn., he was the son of the late Melvin and Lola Call. He served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1962 with a degree in electrical engineering. He had a long and successful career with IBM. Over the years, he earned his commercial pilot’s license, was a member of the Oleika Shrine Temple’s Oriental Band, and enjoyed golf and cooking out with family and friends.

In addition to his wife of 51 years, he is survived by a sister, Melvina (James) Rogers, Munford, Tenn.; a son, Jeff (Lisa) Call, Bartlett, Tenn.; two daughters, Lee Ann (Sammy) Speaks, Midway, and Jana (Tim) Dries, Lexington; seven granddaughters, Allison, Lauren and Caroline Call, Casey and Samantha Speaks, Jade and Codi Dries.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, March 9, at the Lexington Cemetery. The W.R. Milward Mortuary, Southland, was in charge of arrangements.

Contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association.

 

Huckaby

Bill Herbert Huckaby, 84, of Frankfort, husband of Katherine Newland Huckaby and widower of Eleanor Litwin Huckaby, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at his home.

Born March 24, 1924, in Dallas, Texas, he was the son of Elise Pickle and Leonidas Huckaby. A World War II veteran, he served as a radioman in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. As a systems specialist at General Electric in Louisville, he worked with the Univac computer, one of the first business computer applications. He retired in 1981 to a self-taught second career making violins.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Geraldine (Jack) Ball; two sons, Thomas (Patrice) and James (Alisa); two daughters, Winona (Kenneth) Palmgreen and Abigail (Joseph Jr.) Meyer; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth (Gabriel) Becker, Katherine (John) Flaherty, Robert Huckaby, Cynthia (Jeffrey) Esterle, Kristin Palmgreen, Samuel Huckaby, James Huckaby, Sarah Meyer and Joseph Meyer III; and two great-grandchildren, Eleanor Esterle and Lucille Becker.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 13, at LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home by Dr. Jack Brewer and the Rev. Rick McClung. Private burial will be held at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, where military honors will be performed by the VFW Post #4075.Honorary bearers will be Robert Huckaby, Samuel Huckaby, James Huckaby, Joseph Meyer, III, Gabriel Becker, Jeffrey Esterle, John Flaherty and Shane Dunn. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Thursday, March 12, at the funeral home.

Hunter

Linda Lee Daniel Hunter, 60, of Janet Street, Versailles, widow of Jerry Wayne Hunter, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at the University of Kentucky A.B. Chandler Medical Center, Lexington, following an illness.

Born June 21, 1948, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Crystal Pinky Patrick Daniel. She was a homemaker and was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Keith W. Hunter, Versailles; a daughter, Lisa Hunter Shearer, Versailles; two brothers, Richard Daniel and David Daniel, both of Frankfort; five sisters, Barbara Brewer, Ruby Sowers, Ruth Jones, Doris Howard, and Mary Corine Austin, all of Frankfort; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Bobby Daniel and Lawrence Daniel, and two grandchildren are deceased.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, March 9, at Rose Crest Cemetery by the Rev. Everett Hawkins. Casket bearers were Bobby Neal, Mike Jones, Donnie Brewer, Mark Luttrell, Scotty Daniel, Danny Boone, and Ronald Hockensmith. Harrod Brothers Funeral Home, Frankfort, was in charge of arrangements.

Jenkins

Grace W. Jenkins, 80, of Versailles, wife of Earl Jenkins, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at the Blue Grass Community Hospital.

Born in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Harlan and Lucy Foster Warren. She was an active member of the Pentecostal Church of God and former employee of Pin Oak Farm.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Carol (Mike) Hicks and Gerry Fields, both of Versailles, and Jim Littrell, Lexington; a sister, Nellie Jones, Michigan, seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Two brothers, Harlan Warren and Sammy Warren, and a son-in-law, Bobby Fields, are deceased.

Services were conducted Tuesday, March 10, at the Pentecostal Church of God by Bro. Jim Smith. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers were Brian Roberts, Phillip Lancaster, Bill Brown, Keith Branham, Shon King, and Mike Shea.

King

Ronald Neil King, 64, of Versailles, husband of Susan Osborn King, died Monday, March 9, 2009, from injuries received in an accident.

Born in Ohio, he was the son of the late Floyd and Naomi Hartzler King, was a former minister and was a member of Buckrun Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Amanda (Benjamin) Brainard and Abigail (Nathan) McBroom, both of Louisville; and five sisters, Rosalee Readout, Vera Buehler, Sharyn Yoder, Sheryl Wyse, and Brenda Tennant. A brother, Ed King, is deceased.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 13, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Hershel York. Interment will follow in Rose Crest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, March 12, at the funeral home.

Riddle

Robert Risque Riddle, 76, of Lawrenceburg, widower of Mary Jo Cook Riddle, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at his residence.

The son of the late Berdie Parker and Sam Riddle, he was a member of Alton Baptist Church, where he served on the Benevolence Committee and a greeter. He was a 1950 graduate of Midway High School where he played basketball, and was a Korean War Army veteran. He retired from Square D as a supervisor, and was an active Anderson County Gideon.

Survivors include two sons, Robert F. Riddle (Annette), Lawrenceburg, and David Wayne Riddle (Jenni), Lexington; a granddaughter, Savannah Jo Martin (Sammy), Lawrenceburg; and a great-grandson, Clayton Thomas Riddle, Lawrenceburg. A sister, Peggy Riddle, and a brother, Samuel Riddle, are deceased.

Services were conducted Tuesday, March 10, at Gash Memorial Chapel by Bro. Rick Shannon. Burial was in the Midway Cemetery.
