Bickford

Alma Baker Bickford, 97, of Versailles, widow of Estill Bickford, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at her home.

Born Jan. 10, 1910, in Whitley County, she was the daughter of the late George and Dora Hamblin Baker. She was a member of the Berea Baptist Church, the Dixie Lee Sunday school class, and the Retired Teachers Association of Kentucky. She was a teacher for years. She attended Cumberland College and was a graduate of Union College. She was also a member of the Laurel Ridges Chapter D.A.R.

Survivors include a son, Jack Bickford, Crab Orchard; five granddaughters, Amy Fraysur, Florida, Jill Crawford, Versailles, Cindy Bentley, Florida, Micki Rogers, Louisville, and Gina McCarty, Louisville; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Audrey Greer, Knoxville, Tenn. A son, Brig. Gen. James E. Bickford, is deceased.

Services were conducted Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Davis and Powell Funeral Home, Berea, by the Rev. Kevin Slemp. Burial was in the Berea Cemetery.

Contributions are suggested to Berea Baptist Church or Hospice of the Bluegrass.

 

Blake

Carlos "Dutch" Edwin Blake, 99, of Versailles, widower of Catherine Wilson Blake, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at Lexington Country Place.

Born May 17, 1908, he was the son of the late Don Carlos and Elizabeth Dennis Blake. He attended Eastern Kentucky University, was a farmer and a lifelong resident of Troy until the past three years. He was a member of the Troy Presbyterian Church.

A brother, David Blake, is deceased.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill. Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery. Casket bearers were Jack Terrill Jr., Ira Carlos Terrill, Matt Hovekamp, Scott Terrill, David Hovekamp, and Hank Hatfield.

Donations can be made to Troy Presbyterian Church.

Benge

Clarence Allen Benge, 43, of Frankfort, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 2, 1963, in Versailles, he was the son of the late Loretta Benge.

Survivors include his aunt and uncle, William and Janie Spencer; and his cousin, Steven Spencer, all of Versailles. His grandparents, Clarence and Emma Benge, are deceased.

No services are planned. Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, is in charge of arrangements.

Clemons

Everett Young Clemons, 84, of Versailles, widower of Jo Ann Winburn Clemons, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at his residence.

Born in Clark County, he was the son of the late McKinley and Nellie Lee Clemons. He was a former A&P Grocery Store manager and engineer technician, served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of Versailles United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Goldey, Versailles; a son, Joe Everett Clemons, Harrodsburg; a sister, Thelma Watts, Winchester; and three grandsons.

Services were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007 at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Mike Lehman and the Rev. Becky Peterson. Interment was in Rose Crest Cemetery.

Conley

Brian Scott Conley, 40, of Lexington, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at his residence. The son of Roger (Pamela) Conley, Versailles, and Carla Skinner Conley, Lexington, he was a retired self-employed attorney and was a graduate of the University of Kentucky Law School.

In addition to his parents, survivors he is survived by a brother, Dr. Christopher Conley, Bluffton, S.C.; two nieces, Willow and Chloe; a nephews, Oscar; and his fiancée, Niven Paul, Lexington. A sister, Dana Marie Conley, is deceased.

Graveside services were held Monday, Oct. 15. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of one’s choice.

 

Cornwell

Eleanor Marie Mathews Cornwell, 92, of Versailles, widow of Robert Cornwell, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Taylor Manor Nursing Home.

She was the daughter of the late Bruno and Martha Mathews of Kankakee, Ill.

Survivors include two sons, David, Harrodsburg, and Barton, Peotone, Ill.; four grandsons, Chris, Grapevine, Texas, Curt, Dallas, Texas, Robert, Frankfort, and Mark, Dallas, Texas; a granddaughter, Virginia-Bibb Golden, Lexington. Two brothers, Edward and Irving; a sister, Bernice; and a grandson, Jonathan Ford Cornwell, are deceased.

Services and interment will be in Kankakee, Ill., by Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home of Bourbonnais, Ill.

 

Hamilton

Darris D. Hamilton, 93, widower of Miriam Hamilton, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007.

Born April 14,1914,in Fort Wayne, Ind., he and Miriam were well known for their evangelist work and located ministries in seven states. Their last ministry was with the Broadway Christian Church, Lexington, where they served as associates in ministering to the senior members of the church.

Survivors include two daughters, Jenell Sanford and Darlene Pierce, Liberty Township, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Justin and Christina Sanford, Versailles, Jared Sanford, Richmond, Jonathan Sanford, Liberty Township, Ohio, Rodney Waterman, Dyersburg, Tenn., Karlin Aguilar, Dallas, Texas, Kim Waterman, Boston, Mass., and Jason Hamilton Deater, Oregon; and six great-grandchildren, Carter Sanford, Versailles, Harris, Troy, Mallory, Irena Waterman, and Ashley Aguliar. A son, Michael L. Hamilton, is deceased.

Services will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 18, at Southside Christian Church, Versailles, by Justin M. Sanford, minister and grandson of the deceased, and Jay Russell, minister of Forest Dale Church of Christ in Cincinnati.

 

Hughes

Orval T. Hughes, 85, of Troy Pike, husband of Stella Reynolds Hughes, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital.

Born Sept. 7, 1922, in Jessamine County, he was the son of the late George W. and Julia Jones Hughes. He was self-employed, having owned a sawmill and had been a farmer all his life. He enjoyed woodworking and making furniture as well as fishing and gardening. He attended Clover Bottom Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 16, by the Rev. Don Reed and the Rev. David Duggans. Burial was in the Wilmore Cemetery. Casket bearers were Sam Apollos, Ken Scroggins, Walter Bradshaw, Jimmy Hughes, Gary Curd, and Bob Christian. Honorary bearers were Dick Davis, George Bishop, Ed Christian, Kay Apollos, and Henrietta Smith.

Jones

Amanda Hope Jones, 32, of Frankfort, formerly of Versailles, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Born June 22, 1975, in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Juanita Bowman Jones.

Survivors include two brothers, Stephen Jones, Versailles, and Kevin Jones, Winchester.

Private services and burial were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family members served as casket bearers. Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road, Frankfort, was in charge of arrangements.

Robinson

Elizabeth Robinson, 76, of Versailles, wife of Delbert R. Robinson, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at her home.

Born in Larue County, she was the daughter of the late Tom Lawson and Hallie Smith Payton. She had been the first director of volunteers at Baptist Hospital in Louisville. She was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Deborah A. Reak, Florida; a son, Steven R. Robinson, Versailles; an aunt, Irene Smith, Hodgenville; and four grandchildren, Brian and Leslie Jones and Alicia and Daniel Robinson.

Services will be conducted Friday, Oct. 19, at the Bennett - Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville by the Rev. Michael Cabell. Interment will follow at the Red Hill Cemetery, Larue County. Visitation in Versailles will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 18, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home. Visitation in Hodgenville will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19, at Bennett - Bertram Funeral Home.

Rogers

Yvonne Rogers, 67, of Versailles, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, after a brief illness.

Born in 1940 in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late Thurman Doolin and Estelle James. She moved to South Carolina for several years, then moved back to Woodford County shortly before her death.

Survivors include a son, Robert "Bobby" Sandifer; a daughter, Lisa King; three grandchildren, Robert Sandifer Jr., Michael Sandifer, and Morgan King; three great-grandchildren, Hunter Sandifer, Mary Sandifer, and Carolina Sandifer; three sisters, Betty Ginter, Barbara Clark, and Lola Woolums; a brother, Drexel Doolin; and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Bessie Reed, is deceased.

Services will be conducted at noon today, Thursday, Oct. 18, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, by Pastor Frank Lane. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon today. Burial will be in the Versailles Cemetery.

Spradling

Jeff Spradling, 52, of Lexington, formerly of Louisville, died unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007.

Born Jan. 6, 1955, in Cynthiana, he was the son of Wilma Bell (Don) Cracraft of Lexington and Philip (Betty) Spradling of Campbellsburg. He was a self-employed painter and attended Capital City Christian Church in Frankfort. He was a 1974 graduate of Henry County High School.

In addition to parents, he is survived by three children, Scott, Leslie, and Keeley Spradling, all of Louisville; three sisters, Teresa Norvell, Lexington, Jamie Wilson, Versailles, and Lori Raisor, Sulphur; a brother, Phil Spradling, Lexington; and his former wife and mother of his children, Jody Crowe Moore, Louisville. His grandparents, Piercy and Irene Bell and John and Ethel Spradling, are deceased.

Services were conducted Monday, Oct. 15, at Clark Funeral Home, Frankfort, by Dr. Steve Pattison and Glenn Norvell.
