Browne

Shirley Anne Walker Browne, 57, of Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of Versailles, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009.

Services were conducted Saturday, Oct. 17, at Rock of Faith Missionary Baptist Church, Indianapolis, Ind. Burial was in the Sutherland Park Cemetery. Williams & Bluitt Funeral Home, Indianapolis, Ind., was in charge of arrangements.

 

Conner

Patricia Gail Conner, 67, of Versailles, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009.

Born in Midway, she was the daughter of the late Harold W. and Ruth Baker Parker. She was a retired Texas Instruments employee and private sitter at Taylor Manor Nursing Home.

Survivors include two daughters, Joanna (Tim) Mitchell, Versailles, and Janice (Bruce) Quillen, Wilmore; three sons, James S. (Leeann) Conner, Lexington, and Jeffery and Brian Conner, both of Versailles; a sister, Jo Ann (Johnny) Eads, Lexington; a brother, Jerry W. Parker, Lexington; 12 grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

Services were conducted Friday, Oct. 16, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home. Burial was in the Midway Cemetery. Casket bearers were Bruce Quillen, Joshua and Zachery Mitchell, Johnny Wayne and Michael Eads, Marcus, Jason, and Chris Parker.

Devers

Richard G. Devers, 80, of Cynthiana, formerly of Midway, husband of Judy Devers, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Grand Haven Nursing Home in Cynthiana.

Born June 5, 1929, in Midway, he was the son of the late Luther and Jeanette Romans Devers. He was an insurance agent for Kentucky Central. He was a member of Midway Christian Church, where he was a deacon and elder emeritus. He attended Cynthiana Baptist Church. He was a member of the Midway Lions Club for 34 years and was a Kentucky Colonel.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Gloria Jean (Jim) Batts, Versailles; two sons, Ricky (Janet) Devers, Versailles, and Jim Ed (Julia) Devers, Midway; his stepson, Dale (Mary) Fight, South Carolina; two brothers, Marvin Devers, Paducah, and Joe Devers, Versailles; four grandchildren, Chris, Ricky, Rebecca Devers, and John Batts; five great-grandchildren, Jordan and James (J.T.) Batts, Melody, Noel and Abby Devers; and his former wife, Mary Devers.

Services were conducted Monday, Oct. 19, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, by the Rev. Wayne Spivey and the Rev. Heather McColl. Burial was in the Midway Cemetery. Casket bearers were Mr. Devers’s grandchildren, Dale Fight, and Marvin Gray Devers. Honorary bearers were James Redden, James K. "Buddy" Johnson, Billy Lucas, Melvin Henson, Jim Hancock, Dr. Dwight Lewis, and his men’s Sunday school class.

Hayes

Rual "Junior" Hayes Jr., 65, of Waycross, Ga., husband of Jackie Orvin Hayes, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, of cancer.

A native of Lawrenceburg, he was the son of the late Rual Hays Sr. and Ottie Satterly Hays. He lived in Waycross, Ga., since 1999. He was employed for 36 years with CSX Transportation and was a member of Williams Chapel Baptist Church, Waycross, Ga.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Keri Del Hayes, Statesboro, Ga., and Kelly Kearns (John), Lawrenceburg; two sons, Chris Hayes (Paula), Lawrenceburg, and Chad Hayes ( Diana Sage), Versailles; three stepdaughters, Neely Collins (Doug), Statesboro, Ga., Jennifer Griffin, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Kelly Griffin, Waycross, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and two sisters, Phyllis Roy (Cotton), Nancy, and Patricia Roe, Lawrenceburg. A sister, Faustina O’Quinn, is deceased.

Services were conducted Monday, Oct. 19, at Williams Chapel Baptist Church, Waycross, Ga. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 22, in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Gash Memorial Chapel, Lawrenceburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Lewis

Billy M. Lewis, 76, of Frankfort, husband of Elizabeth Purvis Lewis, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009.

Born June 17, 1933, in Woodford County, he was the son of the late Margaret Smith Lockridge. He served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War and was a machinist at the Ancient Age distillery.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Debbie (Jerry) Poole, Donna (Eddie) Lewis Roberts, and Cynthia Lewis, all of Frankfort; three grandchildren, Heather and Camden Poole and Ellie Mackenzie Roberts; and two sisters, Mary New, Frankfort, and Juanita Ramsey, Lexington. A sister, JoAnn Francis, is deceased.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road, Frankfort, was in charge of arrangements.
