Cunliffe Herbert Gordon Cunliffe, 88, of Lexington, formerly of Connecticut, husband of Frances G. Cunliffe, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at Harrodsburg Health Care in Harrodsburg. Born in Central Falls, R.I., he was the son of the late Harry and Elizabeth Brady Cunliffe and was a member of the Catholic faith. He was a retired sales manager for General Electric, Rockwell, and Choquette. He had served as a staff sergeant in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II, and saw action in the South Pacific. In addition to his wife of 64 years, he is survived by a daughter, Barbara Gunter (William Sr.), Lake Suzy, Fla.; a son, Walter Cunliffe (Sarah), Lexington; four grandchildren, Christopher Cunliffe, Chicago, Ill., William Gunter Jr., Stratford, Conn., Elizabeth Granger, Milford, Conn., and Susan Vano, Ansonia, Conn.; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Walter Cunliffe, is deceased. Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 10, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by Fr. Mark Dreves. Grider Raymond Grider, 95, of Versailles, widower of Ruth Grider, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2009. Born Nov. 12, 1913, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Charles and Nanny Robinson Grider. He was a maintenance employee of Lorillard Tobacco Company. Survivors include two sons, Daniel Grider, Versailles, and Raymond Grider Jr., Mississippi; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elwanda Murphy, Lexington. A daughter, Mildred Lewis, is deceased. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 10, at Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road, Frankfort. Casket bearers will be Joel Dunmire, David Cox, Tony Lewis, Tim Grider, Todd Grider, and Roger Honshul. Donations may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass. Condolences may be made at www.clarkfuneralchapels.com. Luttrell Euell Luttrell, 32, of Versailles, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009. Born March 28, 1977, in Woodford County, he was the son of Nadeana Godby Luttrell, Nicholasville, and the late Evlin Luttrell. He was an auto mechanic. Survivors include two daughters, Kayla LeeAnn Luttrell and Madison Luttrell, both of Danville; a sister, Tina (Jeff) Renee Major Tuite, Versailles; his grandfather, the Rev. Donald Godby, Ohio; two nieces, Darrian Jamison and Cheyenne Jamison; and a nephew, Dylan Tuite. Services were conducted Saturday, Sept. 5, at Clark Funeral Home, Versailles Road. Frankfort, by the Rev. Donald Godby and the Rev. Harv Turner Jr. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Perry Lydia Alice Blythe Perry, 96, of Stamping Ground, wife of Estell Perry, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009. Born May 18, 1913, in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late John Franklin and Hallie Mae House Blythe. She was a member of Long Lick Baptist Church. In addition to her husband of 71 years, she is survived by her children, Norma Lou Welch, Janice Fay (Pete) Wise, Ray Davis Perry, and Gayla Joyce (Ronnie) Darnell; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Thornburg; and several nieces and nephews. Her stepmother, Elizabeth Curtis Blythe; a brother, Elmer Blythe; and a grandson, Matthew Darnell, are deceased. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Tucker, Yocum, & Wilson Funeral Home, Georgetown, by Bro. Glenn Redmon and Bro. Harry Hargis. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery, Stamping Ground. Casket bearers will be Ricky Wise, Terry Wise, Calvin Wise, Larry Vanderpool, Kenny Koger, Tanner Wise, and Duane Perry. Guest book at www.tuckeryocumwilson.com. Strange Cordelia Yencia Strange, 100, of Newport News, Va., died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at Riverside Hospital. Born May 6, 1909, in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Johnson and Iva Prather Strange. She was educated in the public schools of Woodford County and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BA degree in 1933. She later attended graduate courses at the College of William and Mary. She taught at a one room school in Woodford County in 1934 and later taught fourth grade in the school at Nonesuch. She moved to Portsmouth, Va., in 1943 to take a job related to the war effort of World War II and was a supervisor at the Norfolk Naval Yard. At the conclusion of World War II, she took a position as a distributive education teacher in the Hampton, Va., school system. She developed a special reading class to provide additional assistance to the students with whom she worked. In 1948 she took a position with the naval base in Norfolk in finance. Later she became a systems analyst and computer specialist in the areas of procurement and supply, and was posted to several naval bases abroad. She retired from federal service in 1979, moving to Newport News in 1991 and shared her home with her sister, Avis Dempsey. She taught Sunday school for many years at her Baptist church in Norfolk and later in Newport News where she was a member of Hilton Baptist Church. Survivors include a sister, Jane Hess (Robert), Newport News, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, Sept. 8, in Amherst Cemetery, Amherst, Va., by the Rev. Glynn Coleman. Driskell Funeral Chapel, Amherst, Va., was in charge of arrangements.
