Bentley

Timothy Matthew "Tim" Bentley, 41, of Lexington, a former horse farm employee, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at the Hospice Care Center following an extended illness.

Born in Lexington, he was the son of Lillie Sloan Bentley of Versailles and the late Homer Bentley, and grew up in Versailles.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Timothy Matthew Bentley II and Bryan Joseph Bentley, both of Lawrenceburg; three sisters, Brenda (Billy) McWhorter, Rineysville, Melody (Tim Hammons) Soard, Berea, and Vickie (Claude) Webb, Means; three brothers, Homer "Buddy" (Lisa) Bentley and Michael (Star) Bentley, both of Lexington, and Anthony Bentley, Versailles.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Paul Huff. Interment was in the Rose Crest Cemetery. Casket bearers were Bryan Bentley, Timothy Bentley, Billy McWhorter, Claude Webb II, Mike Bentley, and Wayne Bentley.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

Chumney

John Thomas Chumney Jr., 86, of Bowling Green, husband of Sara C. Chumney, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at Hopkins Nursing Care, Woodburn.

Born in Columbia, Tenn., he was the son of the late John Thomas Chumney Sr. and Birdie Jane Johnson Chumney. He was the longtime owner of Chumney’s Grocery Store and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre, and earned the World War II Victory Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the American Theatre Ribbon, and three Bronze Stars. He attended Forest Park Baptist Church in Bowling Green.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by a son, John Chumney III (Brenda), Versailles; a grandson, Tommy Chumney (Aleksandrina), Louisville; a granddaughter, Laura Bolen (Brad), Lexington; eight nieces, Marie Woods, Sandra Bailey, Cindy Lee Adkins, Valetta Pafford, Tonda Haul, Lori Phillips, Vickie Rush, and Kathi Dunn; and two nephews, Larry Chumney and Tim Fisher.

Graveside services were conducted Friday, Aug. 28, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Bowling Green. J.C. Kirby and Son Funeral Chapel, Lovers Lane, was in charge of arrangements.

Rodgers

Dorothy Rodgers, 89, of Lexington, widow of Robert G. Rodgers, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at the Mayfair Manor Nursing Home.

Born in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Pearl Davidson, Joseph G. and Agnes Davidson. She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet G. Rodgers, Lexington; and a stepson, Robert J. Rodgers, Versailles.

Services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, by the Rev. John Birchett Jr. and the Rev. Fred Fischer. Burial will follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 3, at the funeral home.
