Robert E. Goodwin Sr., 78, of Frankfort, husband of Mary Ellen Rushing Goodwin, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at the Masonic Home of Shelbyville.
Born Aug. 30, 1933, in Russellville, he was the son of the late Herman and Mary Francis Epley Goodwin. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired from the State Auditorís Office as the director of county audits. He served as a doorman for the Kentucky State Legislature for 20 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert E. (Nicole) Goodwin Jr., Shelbyville; a sister, Martha Byrne Dempsey, Frankfort; and four grandchildren, Emily Lauren Goodwin, Edmond Alexander Goodwin, Logan Tyler Goodwin, and Robert Carlyle Goodwin.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, June 28, at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road, Frankfort, by Dr. Bob Browning and Dr. Mike Greer. Entombment with military honors, officiated by the Rev. Truett Cocanougher, will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Douglas F. Simpson, 81, of Frankfort, husband of Celesta Simpson, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012
A native of Franklin County, he was the son of James Leslie and Katie Morrison Hackney Simpson. He was a guard for the Kentucky State Police Facilities Security. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and an insurance agent at Colonial Life Insurance Company.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, the Rev. Doug (Connie) Simpson Jr., Versailles, David (Gay) Simpson, Jeff (Philda) Simpson, and Scott Samples, all of Frankfort, and Matthew (Hollie) Simpson, Florence; a daughter, Kim (Daniel) Walker, Frankfort; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted Saturday, June 23, at LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home, Frankfort, by Bro. Wallace Kent and the Rev. Doug Simpson Jr. Burial was in the Frankfort Cemetery, where the Kentucky State Police Honor Guard performed honorary services. Casket bearers were Daniel Walker, Scott Walker, Chris Simpson, Jeremy Simpson, George Shuler, and Roger Wilhoite.

Mary Pauline Thompson, 68, of Versailles, widow of Wesley M. Thompson, died Thursday, June 21, 2012.
Born April 3, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Virginia Epperson Tuttle.
Survivors include three daughters, Teresa (Lynn) Huddleston, Rhonda (Lewis) Reed, and Tina (Charlie) Cooper, all of Versailles; five sisters, Patsy Neal, Janice Owens, Norma Bruce, Kim Brumley, and Pam Carroll; four brothers, Johnny, Larry, Terry, and Lee Tuttle; and nine grandchildren. A sister, Donna Tuttle, is deceased.
Services were conducted Tuesday, June 26, at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Randy Nation and the Rev. Terry Tuttle. Casket bearers were Bruce Neal, Kevin Bruce, Michael Carroll, Steve and Alan Tuttle, Jason Reed, Blake Cooper and Greg Brumley.
