Martha J. Johnson, 77, of Versailles, wife of Edward Johnson Jr., died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at the Central Baptist Hospital.

Born in Pleasureville, she was the daughter of the late Guy H. and Katherine Aynes Bennett. She retired from the Department of Unemployment Insurance for Kentucky. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Karen Johnson, Versailles, Sharen Harmon (Keith), Bedford, and Kathy Sanders (Tim), Versailles; two sons, Charles Johnson (Tammy), Louisville, and Patrick Johnson (Alison), Louisville; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. today, Thursday, Nov. 8, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Wesley Noss and the Rev. Justin Raider. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Sarah McCracken Eller Lowe, 88, of Stanton, widow of Richard Eller and Lewis Lowe, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012.

Born in Abington, Va., she was the daughter of the late A.C. and Mary Pearl McCracken. She was a housewife and a member of Jeffersonville Baptist Church. For the last two years, she lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Pearl Eller, in Versailles.

Other survivors include three daughters, Mary (A.J.) Williams, Jeffersonville, Nancy Lowe (Lynn Douglas) Caudill, Dry Ridge, and Virginia (Robert) Kramer of Lore City, Ohio; three other sons, William Clyde (Gretchen) Eller, Versailles, Jimmy Eller, Lexington, and Dwight David (Penny) Lowe, Georgetown; a daughter-in-law, Alma Vice, Mt. Sterling; 16 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren. A son, Avery Richard Eller, is deceased.

Services were conducted Friday, Oct. 26, at Jeffersonville Baptist Church. Burial was in Machpelah Cemetery. Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals, Mt. Sterling, was in charge of arrangements.



Ruth P. Miller, 88, of Versailles, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012.

Born Oct. 8, 1924, in Pocahontas, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Anna Pascal Phillips. She was a retired Woodford County school teacher and a member of Pisgah Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a son, Timothy (Aloha) Miller, Coldwater, Mich.; a daughter, Pamela (Joel) Murphy, Versailles; three grandsons, Joshua (Anastasia) Miller, Coldwater, Mich., Joseph Hacker, Versailles, and Andrew Miller, Ypsilanti, Mich.; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Power, Iowa; two brothers, Clause Phillips and Walter Phillips, both of Iowa; four step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Margaret Rude and Imogene Schoon, are deceased.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, Versailles, by Dr. Pete Jones. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until time of service.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Associations, the American Cancer Society, and Hospice of the Bluegrass.

Jennie Mae Rice, 86, of Versailles, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at the St. Joseph Hospital.

Born in Versailles, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Florence Boswell Rice and was a graduate of Simmons High School. She was a retired Texas Instruments employee with over 35 years of service. An active member of the First Baptist Church, she taught the nursery Sunday school for over 65 years, was a member of the church choir, and music director for the children’s choir.

Survivors include a daughter, Gennelle Rice Meads, Versailles; a son, Greg Rice, Barbourville; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Greene, Dayton, Ohio; a brother, Forrest (Lou) Rice, Hamilton, Ohio; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at First Baptist Church, Versailles. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church by the Rev. Floyd Greene. Burial will follow in Steele Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Robert Reed, Austin Rice Reed, Donald Morton, Aton Shepherd, Jeff Higgins, and James Greene. Honorary bearers will be the First Baptist Children’s Choir. Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The Rev. Fred Eugene Richardson, 89,of Lexington, husband of Juanita Sills Richardson, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at his home.

Born in Dallas, Texas, and raised in Paducah, he was the son of the late Henry Richardson and Velma Wynne. A World War II veteran of the Navy, he served in the South Pacific. He was a 1949 graduate of Georgetown College and a 1953 graduate of the Southern Baptist Seminary. As a Southern Baptist minister, he pastored 13 churches, was associate pastor of two churches, interim pastor of two churches and minister of music at one church. When he retired pastoring churches, he and his wife joined Immanual Baptist Church in Lexington, where he taught Sunday school and served as a deacon.

In addition to his wife of 70 years, he is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Ray) Gilliland, Belton, and Lura (Terry) Foster, Versailles; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. A son, Ronald Eugene Richardson, and a daughter, Evelyn Alene, are deceased.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Filbeck-Cann and King Funeral Home, Benton. Burial was in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jacqueline Marie Wilson, 65, of Versailles, wife of Lewis Wilson, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at the UK Chandler Medical Center.

Born in Louisville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Kelly Hobbs Sr. and Mary Emma Collins Hobbs. She was a graduate of Simmons High School and attended the Kentucky Vocational School of Cosmetology. She also received her mortuary license from Indiana Mid America College. She was the owner of Jackie’s Beauty Salon and was an active member of the Simpson United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband of 48 years, she is survived by four daughters, Vanessa Wilson, Versailles, Latoya Wilson, Lexington, Octavia Wilson, Versailles, and Verna Wilson, Georgetown; a son, Glenn Wilson, Midway; a brother, Joseph Hobbs Jr., Lexington; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Simpson United Methodist Church by the Rev. Willis Polk. Burial will follow in the Steele Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Ronald McKinney, Donald McKinney, Todd Craig, Omar Christian, Neal Greenly, and Joe Gay. Honorary bearers will be Joe Richard, Pete Washington, Bob Higgins, Richard Washington, William Harris, and William Jones. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Friday.
