Borders

Judith Carol Ham Borders, 55, of Gainesville, Ga., wife of George E. Borders, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at Landmark Hospital in Athens, Ga., following an extended illness.

Born Oct. 23, 1956, in Carlisle, she was the daughter of the late Clyde F. and Nancye C. Curtis Ham. She worked for Hewlett Packard in computer software.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two brothers, Frank Ham, Florida, and James R. Ham, Versailles; a sister, Charlotte Ham Williams, Winchester; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services were conducted Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Blue Licks Christian Church, Maysville Road, Carlisle.

 

Buffin

Dorothy Flora Buffin, 91, widow of Albert Buffin, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at the Hospice Care Center.

A Woodford County native, she was the daughter of the late Floyd "Shorty" and Mary Huffman Flora. An Asbury College graduate, she taught school for 39 years, obtained advanced training in special education from the University of Kentucky, and taught the first special education classes in Woodford County. She was a longtime active member of the Versailles United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday school for over 40 years, was a member and past president of United Methodist Women for over 30 years, was a member of the church choir, the Soul Survivors, and the Cornerstones. She had extensively traveled to Jerusalem, Israel, Costa Rica, Belize, and England. She also served as a Woodford County precinct worker for many years.

Survivors include two sisters, Evelyn Humphrey and Geneva Tudor, both of Nicholasville; three stepchildren, Betty Shuck, Jessamine County, and Cecil Buffin and Ray Buffin, both of Lexington; four nieces, Etta Smith and Teresa Long, both of Nicholasville, Faye Huff, Lexington, and Alma Lois Webb, Arizona; five nephews, David L. Doolin and Johnnie Tudor, both of Nicholasville, Bobby Doolin and Donald Fain, both of Lexington, and Steve Baker, Florida; and five grandchildren, Carla Buffin, Micha Buffin, Marsha Buffin, Shannon Shuck, and Jennifer Buffin. A sister, Mattie Fain and a brother, Raymond Flora, are deceased.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Versailles United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tim Thompson and the Rev. Rebecca Peterson. Casket bearers were David L. Doolin, Bobby Doolin, Johnie Ray Tudor, Lane Smith, David Anthony Underwood, and Bobby Doolin Jr. Honorary bearers were members of the Versailles United Methodist Church Cornerstones. Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bullock

William Logan "Bill" Bullock, 82, of Versailles, widower of Zula Mize Bullock, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012.

Born May 5, 1930, in Plato, Ky., he was the son of the late William Henry and Sussie Mink Bullock. He was the groundskeeper for Woodford Hills Country Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a member of Glenís Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Agnes (Larry) Stratton, Nicholasville, and Nancy Sanders, Versailles; three grandchildren, Chris, Beth, and Jodi Gabbard; and a great-grandson, William Christopher Gabbard.

Services were conducted Monday, Oct. 1, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers were David Brock, Jeff Moffett, Thomas Smith, and Chris Gabbard. Honorary bearers were Larry Stratton, Barry Ginter, and Dan Collins.

Harbett

William Ellsworth "Skip" Harbett, husband of Teresa Harbutt, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, in Richmond of cancer.

He was the son of Carolyn Bach, Versailles, and the late Ellsworth Harbett, Lexington.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Robert Riley Russell; a sister, Melissa Rogers; a niece, Rachel Rogers, all of Versailles; his mother-in-law, Donna Downey of Tucson, Ariz.; his father-in-law, George H. Gadbois Jr., Versailles; and numerous other relatives. A brother, George Rogers Harbett, Versailles, is deceased.

A memorial service was held on Sunday, Sept. 30, at Madison Community Church, Richmond.

 

Hillard

Joseph Lee Hillard Jr., 72, of Winchester, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at his residence.

Born in Woodford County, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary McDaniel Hillard Sr.

Survivors include four daughters, Brenda Jo Staton, Michelle Ann Hillard, Marsha Hillard and Caitlin Hillard; two sons, James Allen Hillard and David Allen Hillard; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Belle Winburn. A son, Danny Lee Hillard, and two sisters, Lola Mae Brumfield and Beulah Hillard, are deceased.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Main Street, Lexington. Burial will be in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 4.

 

Lancaster

Roberta C. Lancaster, 75, of Versailles, wife of Jerry W. Lancaster, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012.

Born March 16, 1937, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of Alberta Kanatzer of Lexington and the late Elmer Courtney. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by two daughters, Julia Reed, Versailles, and Robin Hedrick, Lexington; two sons, Benjamin Scott Lancaster, Versailles, and Robert Tilton, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Jessica Allen, Erin Hedrick, Kade Lancaster, and Piper Reed; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted Sunday, Sept. 30, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, by the Rev. David Jones. Burial was in the Versailles Cemetery. Casket bearers were David Clark, Gordon Warren, Jimmy Sewell, Mark Roark, Phillip Lancaster, and Roy Lancaster. Honorary bearers were Ed McManaway, Herb Lancaster, and John Routt.

Morrison

Charles Stephen Morrison, 59, of Versailles, husband of Diane Morrison, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012.

A native of Woodford County, he was born Sept. 4, 1953, to Hilda Lawson of Lexington and the late James Joseph Morrison. He was a master craftsman at Rand McNally for 30 years.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two children, Stephanie (David, Jr.) Morrison Lyons, Versailles, and Charles Stephen Morrison Jr., Frankfort; three brothers, James "Buzz" (Nellie) Morrison, Versailles, Roger (Frances) Morrison, Lawrenceburg, and Franky (Peggy) Morrison, Burgin; six sisters, Shirley (Ronnie) Lawson, Versailles, Vickie Morrison, Lexington, Doronda (Tom) Walters, Versailles, Tammy Morrison, Lexington, Marlene Nichols, Lexington, and Alta Renfro, Lawrenceburg; and six grandchildren, Jimmy Morrison, Emily Morrison, Ciara Lyons, Anthony Lyons, Cody Lyons, and Dylan Lyons. A granddaughter, Lexi Nicole Lyons, is deceased.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 4, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, by the Rev. Edward Nichols. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers will be Charles Stephen Morrison Jr., David Lyons Jr., Vernon Stapp, Ronnie Lawson, Roger Morrison, and Frank Morrison.

Popp

William Heath Popp, 72, of Frankfort, husband of Linda Brown Popp, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012.

Born Jan. 25, 1940, in Scott County, he was the son of the late William Newton Popp and Eva Elizabeth Morgan Popp. He was a retired employee of Bluegrass Airport and a member of Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Jamie (Wanda) Popp, Lawrenceburg, Kim (Don) Treon, Versailles, Angela (Greg) McGaughey, Frankfort, Lisa (Darrell) Hall, Frankfort, and Kimme Sebree, Versailles; a brother, John (Mary) Popp, Midway; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted Monday, Oct. 1, at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road, Frankfort, by the Rev. Todd Lester and the Rev. Bill Adcock. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers were Logan Brown, Wayne Becknell, Billy Jordan, Gary Eaves, Gene Brown, and Wayne Popp.

Reilly

Sara McGee Reilly 93, of Lexington, widow of Jack Reilly, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012.

The daughter of the late William and Alleen McGee, she graduated from New Rochelle Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1940, and worked as an R.N. for many years for Dr. Ben Roach and Dr. Norman (Jack) Fisher.

Survivors include two sons; Jack (Susan) Reilly and Dann (Teal) Reilly; two granddaughters; Katie Reilly and Tricia Reilly; a grandson, Townley (Lisle) Dalton; and a great-grandchild, Reilly Dalton, Lexington. A brother, Dr. William E. McGee, is deceased.

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, followed by a memorial service at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, Versailles.

Rice

The Rev. Robert Carl "Bobby" Rice, 79, of Versailles, husband of Agnes Bowman Rice, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012.

A native of Versailles, he was born July 2, 1933, to the late Charles Walter and Mildred Mitchell Rice. He was a member of Fintville Community Church, a member of the ministerial association, a member of the Gideons International, and a member of the Masonic Lodge #41 F&AM. He was a former Woodford County deputy sheriff and constable as well as a Kentucky Colonel.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Sharon (Willie) Jones, Robbie (Kelli) Rice, Kim (Eugene) Marcum, and Tony (Robbie Baldwin) Rice; seven grandchildren, Andrea (Ben) Mackey, Lori (Josh) DeVore, Aaron (Megan) Marcum, Tara Marcum, Robert Rice III, Tyler Baldwin, and Emily Baldwin; and five great-grandchildren, Eli Mackey, Camden Mackey, Hazel Mackey, Silas Mackey, and Olivia DeVore.

Services were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, by the Rev. Kenny Robinson. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers were Josh DeVore, Ben Mackey, Steve Jones, Robert Rice, Eugene Marcum, Willie Jones, and Aaron Marcum. Honorary bearers were Pete Richardson, Mike Richardson, Tommy Rankin, Billy Lee Carpenter, Larry Bowman, Lonnie Bowman, Rae Williams, Jessie Jones, and Clay Jones.

Schooler

Dorothy Marie Devine Schooler, 60, of Lexington, formerly of Versailles, wife of Andrew Schooler Jr., died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at her home.

Born in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Sr. and Mary Katherine Williams Devine. She was a graduate of Woodford County High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Atokey Jones, Lexington, and Janet Jones, Cincinnati, Ohio; a son, Staffond (Ebony) Devine, Lexington; four sisters, Barbara (Wallace Sr.) Morton, Lexington, and Genelle Devine, Anita Devine, and Diane (Sean) Demus, all of Versailles; two brothers, Eugene (Doris) Devine Jr. and Charles (Tracey) Devine, both of Lexington; and three grandchildren. A brother, Clifford Devine, and two sisters, Anna Louise Jones and Georgianne Mosby, are deceased.

Services were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the First Baptist Church by Pastor Floyd Greene. Burial was in the Steele Cemetery. Casket bearers were Juan Fender, Mario Hanley, Robert Maxberry, Greg Muir, Keith Tevis, and Adrian Wilkinson. Honorary bearers were Manson Jones Jr., Quintine Jones, Wallace Morton Jr., Jeremiah Morton, Anthony Devine Shamarr Demus, and Darrell Devine.

Smith

Barbara Wright Smith, 65, of Versailles, wife of Ed Smith, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012.

A native of Versailles, she was born June 26, 1947, to Eva Louise Wright and the late Paul Wright. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by a son, Stephen Smith, Lexington; three brothers, Paul Wright, Versailles, Richard Wright, Somerset, and Donald Wright, Versailles; and a sister, Peggy Slugantz, Versailles.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, by the Rev. Wayde Miller. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers were Paul Wright, Richard Wright, Donald Wright, Bret Wright, Wayne Rogers, and Bryan Stewart.
