Two years ago, FarmVet, located on the U.S. 60 Bypass, opened for business.

Already a well-known name in equine health and care needs in the horse show and hunter jumper world since its founding in Tennessee in 1999, FarmVet chose to open its third, and most recent, brick and mortar location in Versailles when it purchased Horse Cents two years ago.

FarmVet built its brand with mobile stores set up at equine shows and events, from dressage to hunter-jumper. It recognized that the lifestyle of equestrians could be met by bringing the FarmVet products directly to the showgrounds, and its mobile stores became a fixture at major horse shows across the country, whether it was calming paste before a big event or shampoo that was inadvertently left at the farm, according to Fathom Adams, an experienced equestrian who manages the Versailles store.

Maintaining the quality and customer loyalty of Horse Cents, FarmVet will “continue to provide quality leather goods, even belts, which our Horse Cents Leather Shop exemplifies thanks to its 30 years of leather craftsmanship and Kentucky tradition,” said Melissa Fryer, FarmVet's Kentucky sales manager.

Fryer, herself, brings the skills and wisdom gained from an exemplary equestrian career to FarmVet's operations and customers. Fryer is a native of Versailles and deeply rooted in the horse industry. She competed for many years, including at the Woodford County Fair. Indeed, Fryer appeared many times in the Sun's pages when she was active in her career as a rider and trainer.

A particular piece of FarmVet's services is an equine-specific compounding pharmacy.

“We worked closely with the owner of Horse Cents, and he remains part of our team. We built on Horse Cents’ strong local foundation while introducing a full-scale pharmacy with compounding, which will serve the needs of both local racing and sport horse clients,” said Adams.

Adams and Fryer both said they are enthusiastic about working with the equine program at Midway University in the areas of equine health and nutrition.

FarmVet promises to continue the long tradition of Horse Cents, while providing even more products and expertise to the full spectrum of the critically important Woodford County equine industry.
