Midway Mayor Stacy Thurman announced at the Monday, Oct. 9 Midway City Council meeting that the city is preparing a request for proposals (RFP) for a water supplier. Currently, the city’s water is supplied by Kentucky American Water. Councilmember Logan Nance, chair of the Public Works Committee, said his committee has been investigating various other supplier options including discussions with the Frankfort Plant Board. Thurman said after conferring with the city attorney, the next step is to prepare and publish an RFP. Thurman and Nance said they are working with the city attorney and city engineer in preparing the RFP and hope to have it ready for publication by Oct. 20. Councilmember Sara Hicks reminded the council that the “walkability” study of Midway’s streets will take place on Thursday and four groups will be led by Troy Hearn with the state Transportation Cabinet. Hicks said she hopes that following the study, the council will have a report to guide the decision-making for the funds budgeted this fiscal year for sidewalk repairs. The walkability study will cover Main Street to Gratz Street, Winter Street, Northside Drive and Stephens Street. Thurman urged people of “all abilities, including strollers, to join the walks.” Councilmember Patrick Hall expressed gratitude to city employees Liz Waterfall and Sonya Carter for “really stepping in to help find a (burial) plot at the last minute (for a family).” Hicks said this was yet another “example of the kind of caring and supportive community we live in. We are fortunate to live in Midway.”
