Rep. Dan Fister and water quality

I find it interesting that Rep. Dan Fister, in the Sun’s interview with him, says that his vice-chairmanship of the House Agriculture Committee “gives him a good perch to identify and advocate for policies beneficial to farmers and the agricultural community and economy.”

Senate Bill 89 (Water Regulation), with Rep. Fister’s full support, eases restrictions on water quality, is affecting Elkhorn Creek and Gleen’s Creek.

Would Rep. Fister please explain to the citizens of Woodford County how his support of SB 89 was beneficial to farmers and the agricultural community and economy.

(Editor’s note: SB 89, sponsored by Sen. Scott Madon, R-Pineville, limits the regulation of water pollution in Kentucky to a weakened federal standard. The bill passed in 2025 after the House and Senate overrode the governor’s veto. It became effective upon its passage.)
