The most recent episode of a too-large vehicle driving on Pisgah Pike took place last Friday afternoon at around 5.
An International tractor-trailer owned by Cordell Transportation Company, located in Dayton, Ohio, and driven by Jesse Alston, also of Dayton, ran off the west side of southbound Pisgah Pike between Fire Gates 3 and 4, knocking down a mature tree, breaking off limbs of others and destroying a road sign.
The trailer sustained severe damage to its roof and passenger side. Alston continued to travel south until he pulled over in the entrance of Newtown Anner Stud Farm, just north of the railroad crossing – meaning he drove nearly the entirety of Pisgah Pike after causing the damage to the trees and the tractor-trailer.
According to a report prepared by the Versailles Police Department, the contributing causes of the single-vehicle collision were “driver inattention, misjudgment of height clearance and not maintaining the vehicle under control.”
Police Chief Rob Young told the Sun that the driver was not cited, and was uninjured. It is not known if any other vehicles were forced to take evasive action while the tractor-trailer traversed Pisgah Pike. The Woodford County Road Department was required to clear the road.
