John Creason Sumpter Jr., 74, of Versailles, husband of Mary Ruth Sumpter, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015. A native of Louisville, he was the son of the late J.C. and Gertrude Gossman Sumpter. He was an IBM retiree, former auctioneer, a member of the Masonic Robert M. Sirkle Lodge # 954 and a member of Woodford Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing, refinishing furniture, and antiques. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, LeAnne Nash, Versailles; a son, John Sumpter III, Lexington; a sister, Mary Jo James, Seymour, Ind.; and three grandchildren, Dylan Sumpter and Benjamin and Dennis Nash. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 31, at Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, Versailles. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers will be Dylan Sumpter, Dennis Nash, David Wheeler, David Graves, Chip James and Steve Johnson. Honorary bearers will be Chris Meek and Tom James.
