WCMS wrestling wins District 7 tournament; advances to regions

The Woodford County Middle School wrestling team hosted 10 teams in the District 7 wrestling tournament on Saturday, Jan. 16, and finished in first place over Anderson County. Carr Wrestling Academy finished third in the tournament, followed by Elkhorn in fourth, Scott County fifth, Madison County sixth, Bourbon County seventh, Tates Creek eighth, EJ Hayes ninth and the Wolverines Wrestling Academy 10th. Individually, the WCMS team, which is coached by Chris Goss and Brent Courtney, had 13 placers, who will now advance to the region tournament and face the District 8 champions. The 13 WCMS placers in the tournament who advanced to the region tournament were: * Jonathan Pittman, who won the 113-pound weight class over Anderson County’s Zane Drury. * Tristan Brooks, who won the 121-pound weight class over Elkhorn’s Jalin Montgomery. * Conner Dutton, who finished second in the 75-pound weight class with a loss to Anderson County’s Isaiah Gettlefinger. * Reece Goss, who finished second in the 92-pound weight class with a loss to Carr Wrestling Academy’s Gus Roberts. * Dylan Bourne, who finished second in the 105-pound weight class with a loss to Carr Wrestling Academy’s Brayden Giannone. * Cameron Owen, who finished second in the 240-pound weight class with a loss to Anderson County’s Ben Jennings. * Gavin Andreoni, who finished third in the 80-pound weight class with a win over Scott County’s Troy Brown. * Maquoia Bernabe, who finished third in the 190-pound weight class with a win over Elkhorn’s Leon Johnson. * Ashley Courtney, who finished fourth in the 86-pound weight class with a loss to Bourbon County’s Joshua French. * Jackson Geilear, who finished fourth in the 98-pound weight class with a loss to Anderson County’s Ethan Fowler. * Connor Walsh, who finished fourth in the 130-pound weight class with a loss to Carr Wrestling Academy’s Caleb Bowling. * Ritchie Cunningham, who finished fourth in the 140-pound weight class with a loss to Scott County’s Trenton Allen. * Grant Garrison, who finished fourth in the 168-pound weight class with a loss to Elkhorn’s Andrew Maupin. Other WCMS wrestlers who participated in the district tournament, but who did not advance to the region tournament, were: * William Embry, who finished sixth in the 86-pound weight class. * Camden Bohanan, who finished sixth in the 113-pound weight class. * Tanyea Ramirez, who finished sixth in the 130-pound weight class. * Andrew Kartner, who finished sixth in the 152-pound weight class. * Dustin Williams, who finished ninth in the 70-pound weight class. * Ian Ferrall, who finished ninth in the 98-pound weight class. * Gael Gonzalez, who finished 10th in the 98-pound weight class. * Austin Williams, who finished 11th in the 130-pound weight class.
