Erma Elaine Paynter, 89, of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, to be reunited in Heaven with her husband of 62 years, Prewitt Paynter. She was born in Harrison County, KY, to the late John Wesley and Clara Whalen Paynter. Elaine attended Fugazzi College. She worked at the Harrison County Extension Office as well as a secretary for the Harrison County Superintendant of Schools, and as a Realtor in Lexington. Elaine was gifted when it came to needlework and sewing and worked for 10 years at McAlpin’s Department store in the alterations department. She was also involved with the Homemakers Association in Lexington. Elaine was a devoted mother and wife and a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church. Elaine is survived by a son, Leland Scott (Amy) Paynter, Indianapolis, Ind.; a daughter, Laurel (David) Kratt, Versailles; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Ashley Paynter, Jeffrey Scott Paynter, Rosemary Catherine Paynter, Shelby Nichole Kratt, Mason Montgomery Kratt, Gwendolyn Elaine Paynter, and Lilianna Marie Paynter; two great-grandchildren, Henry Scott Pandorf and Felix Elliott Pandorf; and a brother, Robert Paynter. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 2, at Milward-Southland, Lexington. Burial was at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
