John Sallee died Tuesday, March 15, 2016, after a long battle with cancer. A native of Harrodsburg, born May 30, 1954, he was the son of the late William Arvel and Edith Mae Burkhead Sallee. An old school horseman, John enjoyed a long career in the Thoroughbred industry, working in a number of capacities from maintenance to farm manager. For the last 22 years, he was the night watchman and foaling man at Glennwood Farm Inc. in Woodford County. John's dedication to his job and to the horses under his care, and loyalty to the farms he worked for, earned him the respect and affection of his colleagues and owners alike. He was an avid outdoorsman and keen deer hunter. John is survived by his loving wife, Wildean Jones Sallee; a daughter, Hannah (Jeremy) Grigsby; two sons, Joshua Sallee and David Allen Markwell; and two grandchildren, Paisley Katherine Grigsby and Tamra Nicole Sallee. His family would particularly like to thank the wonderful people at Hospice of the Bluegrass for their care and support during John's last months, and Mr. John Gunther, owner of Glennwood Farm, for his generosity and understanding throughout John's illness. A memorial service will be held at noon, Saturday, March 20, at St. Andrew's Anglican Church with the Very Rev. David Brannen, Rector, officiating. All are invited to a short time of fellowship and light refreshments following the service. Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Guestbook at www.BlackburnandWard.com.
