Charles F. Downey, 98, former owner of Million Oil Service, widower of Mary Harlow Downey, died Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington. Born in Woodford County, he was the son of the late Ben H. Sr. and Ann McManaway Downey. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and member of the Huntertown Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of American Legion Post #67, the Versailles Lions Club, and longtime member of the Woodford County Fair Board. Survivors include two daughters, Jean Leigh Wachter and Barbara Jo Cummins; two sons, Jimmy (Bonnie) Downey and Charles "Tommy" (Karen) Downey; a son-in-law, Dinzle Centers; 12 grandchildren, Melisa (Keith) McDonald, Troy (Cindy) Centers, Jimmy (Fiona) Downey Jr., Crystal Luttrell, Daphne Whittaker, Penny (Jeff) Quatman, Trevor Wachter, Bryan Cummins, Anita (Shane) McCall, Kevin (Ashley) Cummins, Karey Downey, and Adriene (Jacob) Downey-Routt; 17 great-grandchildren, Logan McDonald, Adam (Amanda) Centers, Kayla (Andrew) Allen, Samantha (Patric) Bracco, Corey McCall, Emma McCall, Leah Cummins, Tara Cummins, Ayden Cummins, Avery Cummins, Bentley Routt, Jordan Downey, Alexis Downey, Chelsey Whittaker, Hailee Moore, Aryzona Moore, and Jaden Miller; and three great-great-grandchildren, Isabella Bracco, Hudson Bracco, and Griffin Allen. A daughter, Doris Ann Centers, a great-great-granddaughter, Anna Faith Centers, and three brothers, Herman, Elmer, and Ben Downey, are deceased. Services were conducted Tuesday, April 19, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Beth Ellenberg. Burial with military honors was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers were Troy Centers, Jimmy Downey Jr., Trevor Wachter, Kevin Cummins, Bryan Cummins, Jacob Routt, Cory McCall, Adam Centers, Jordan Downey, Shane McCall, and Jessie Whittaker. Honorary pallbearers were Bentley Routt, Griffin Allen, Hudson Bracco, and Ayden Cummins. Memorials suggested to American Legion Post #67 or Thomson Hood Veterans Center.
