Message from the Mayor

Francisco’s Farm Arts Festival seemed to be a great success, and even though the weather wasn’t the best on Saturday, it was as perfect as could be on Sunday. I heard some vendors say that they still had great weekends even though the rain was persistent on the first day. I even saw one artist mention on Facebook that he had his best weekend ever at the festival. The event organizers and volunteers did an outstanding job once again, as the festival seemed to be running like a finely tuned engine when Katie and I visited, and there were folks of all ages with smiles on their faces enjoying our city and beautiful Midway University. I’ve got to give a shout-out to the Friday volunteers who helped artists load in for the weekend. As I drove through campus to see the set-up – from the comfort of my car – I saw Midway folks soaked to the bone but with smiling faces, helping artists unload their wares. No wonder artists love participating in Francisco’s Farm. Our Memorial Day service will be this Monday, May 30, at 10 a.m. at Midway Cemetery. Our guest speaker this year will be Jeremy Emerson, SFC U.S. Army NG, who serves as the chair of the Midway Veterans Memorial Committee. I hope you can join us for what is always a solemn and inspiring occasion.
