10 Years Ago July 7, 2006 Kevin McVey, a native of Versailles and recent graduate of Woodford County High School, will take the stage at Studio Players of Lexington starring as Jesus in "Godspell," a musical re-telling of the Gospel of Matthew. Godspell is a first-time collaboration between Paragon Music Theatre and Studio Players. It opens on July 20 and runs weekends through Aug. 13. Beth and Jere Adams will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Sunday, July 16, 2006, at the Versailles Baptist Church fellowship hall from 2 to 4:30 p.m. 25 Years Ago July 4,1991 Julie Parrott was crowned Miss Woodford County Fair Saturday night. Elisabeth Allen and Cindy Wells were first and second runners-up, respectively. Martha Thompson, County 4-H Extension agent, has left that post to assume new responsibilities as Cooperative Extension personnel officer at the University of Kentucky. Versailles's general fund budget for 1991-92 shows revenues of $2,733,740 and appropriations of $2,367,875. Jill Marie Wright of Versailles has been awarded an academic achievement scholarship to attend the University of Kentucky. The Woodford County Theatrical Arts Association will open its fourth summer season with "The Music Man" next Thursday at the County Park Amphitheater. Katherine Hicks Wilder and daughter, Jenny, of Santa Fe, N.M., have returned home after a visit in Midway with Mrs. Wilder's mother, Niesje Spragens, and Mr. Spragens. Jason Thompson pitched his sixth decision without a loss, and the Woodford 18s won five of eight baseball games during the past week. Wilbur Moffett fired a 36-hole total of 136 to win the Woodford Hills Country Club Senior Tournament by nine strokes over Jim Colyer. 40 Years Ago July 1, 1976 An appeal of the recent Wells Farm ruling of the Woodford Circuit Court to allow the property to be rezoned for residential use will not be made by Fiscal Court. The decision was reached when a tie vote was broken by County Judge Matt T. Blackard, whose "no" vote took the court out of any further action in the suit. Fiscal Court adopted a budget of $1.1 million Saturday, approximately 5.7 percent higher than the previous budget. Jim Kennedy has resigned as director of the Woodford County Recreation and Parks Department. A flag raising ceremony in memory of Gen. Field Harris will take place Sunday, July 4, at the Logan Helm Woodford County Library. Renita Ballard, Cathy Wehrle, and Debbie Redden were on the second semester honor roll at Georgetown College. A new historical marker related to the establishment of the town of Midway was one of the many attractions as citizens celebrated the nation's bicentennial during daylong festivities Saturday. Jane Rawlings of Midway is one of the Transylvania University students participating in studies this summer in Europe. Merel Lunsford of the Clover Bottom area was pictured standing at the base of an American elm on his farm that is the largest reported elm tree in Kentucky. It measures 21 feet 8 inches around the trunk, stands 78 feet high, and has an average crown spread of 131 feet. Edmond H.
