New trial date set for man accused of sexual abuse
A new trial date has been scheduled for a 60-year-old Versailles man charged with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse. Larry Watts, who was scheduled to face those felony charges beginning July 18, will now return to Woodford Circuit Court for a three-day trial set to begin on Feb. 13, 2017. Judge Paul Isaacs scheduled a new trial after Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Lee Greenup told him that the Versailles Police detective who investigated the case was going to be out of town when the trial was scheduled this month. According to an indictment returned by a Woodford County grand jury, Watts unlawfully subjected a girl to sexual contact when she was unable to consent because she was less than 12 years old. Watts allegedly committed the acts from May to November 2001. Watts posted a $50,000 property bond.
