Nichols


Ruby Searcy Nichols, 88, wife for 65 years of the late Thomas Campbell Nichols, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, at Baptist Healthcare while surrounded by her family and friends. Born in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Roy Lee and Trannie Reed Searcy. She graduated from Versailles High School, raised her children and then worked as a seamstress at Stewart’s Department Store for many years. Ruby was a loving homemaker for her husband and family, and was a longtime member of the Versailles Baptist Church. She had been a 4-H leader for many generations of children, including for her daughters and granddaughters. She was a member of the Woodford Homemakers and was a Girl Scout leader. Survivors include four children, Alan (Lisa) Nichols, Susan (Donald) Valentine, Glenn (Vicki) Nichols, and Raemel (Stuart) Fanning, all of Versailles; a brother, Roy Lee Searcy Jr. of Lexington; three sisters-in-law, Lillian (Dawson) Craycraft of Slidell, La., Margaret Nichols Whalen of Versailles, and Jean Nichols of Georgetown; her grandchildren, Michael (Marsheila) Valentine of Frankfort, Mary Beth Kratzer of Versailles, Teri Wells, Lawrenceburg, Alison Valentine (Billy Camper) Cress, Erika Nichols, Joshua Campbell Nichols, Selina (Matt) Britton, Stuart Baker Fanning II, and Sarah Marie Fanning, all of Versailles; 12 great-grandchildren, Kathleen Wells, Ally Wells, Kasi Kratzer, Michael Sue Valentine, Aaron Valentine, Anthony Valentine, Stephen Cress II, Kayleigh Cress, Kira Camper, Chesley Todd, Aden Britton, and Amelia Britton; and a great-great-granddaughter, Sky Valentine. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Aug. 8, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. John Brandon and the Rev. Chris Harper. Burial was in the Versailles Cemetery. Casket bearers were Michael Valentine, Josh Nichols, Baker Fanning, Stephen Cress II, Aaron Valentine, and Anthony Valentine. Honorary bearers were David Long, John Boren, Patty Howard Clark, Jeanette Dunavent, and her nieces and nephews.
