Smith, McGowan top finishers in Rumble through the Jungle

The Woodford County High School varsity cross country teams competed against some of the top schools in Kentucky in the Rumble through the Jungle cross country meet on Saturday, Sept. 17, and came home with some good results. In the girls’ competition, Jodie Smith had Woodford’s top performance. She finished 40th with a time of 22:43.30. In the boys’ competition, Peter McGowan had Woodford’s top performance. He finished 85th with a time of 19:44.89. Here are the complete results. Girls’ Team As mentioned, Jodie Smith had Woodford’s best performance, as she completed the 5,000-meter run with a time of 22:43.30; good for 40th place. Other Woodford finishers in the meet were Regan Martin (48th place with a time of 23:00.50); Sissy Spasova (78th, 24:24.28); Jessica Smith (87th, 28:24.28); Paden Nicholson (113th, 32:09.77); Makenzie Thomas (120th, 33:58.35); Rachel Tyra (121st, 33:59.81); Esli Epinoza (128th, 36:13.81) Lauren Watercutter (129th, 37:08.23); Bekah Hall (131st, 26:58.97); Turner Reynolds (139th, 28:03.52); Maricela Ponce (144th, 29:12.87); Kylie Claridge (147th, 29:20.17); Kristen Taylor (150th, 30:55.43); and Isabella Steely (152nd, 31:29.78). Boys’ Team As mentioned, Peter McGowan had Woodford’s best performance at the meet, as he completed the 5,000-meter run in 19:44.89; good for 85th place. Other Woodford finishers in the meet were Mitchell Scott (111th, 20:17.69); Abran Santos (118th, 20:37.22); Jalen Newton (119th, 20:39.18); Jonathon Hall (127th, 20:53:38); Justin Lehmkuhler (147th, 21:44.48); James Hawkins (148th, 21:44.94); Sam Eagen (159th, 22:43.87); Will Mofffett (198th, 26:03.61); and Casey Taylor (211th, 29:19. 82). In other recent cross country action … At the Woodford All-Comers Meet at Falling Spring on Sept. 8, Maggie Twehues won the girls’ middle school division. She completed the 3,000-meter course in 13:22.86. Finishing right behind her in second place was Evelyn Hamilton with a time of 14:15.47; while Gabby Gamper finished seventh in 15:44.84; Addie Patterson was eighth in 16:12.19; and Addison Moore was 10th in 16:32.84. Also at the Woodford All-Comers meet, Jacob Reeder finished second in the boys’ middle school division when he completed the 3,000-meter course in 13:22.18. Finishing close behind him was Jack Lehmkuhler in seventh place with a time of 13:55.92.
