Corman


Willard F. "Pappy" Corman, 83, of Versailles, husband of Jo Ann Bruner Corman, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, at his home. Born at Bryantsville, he was the son of the late Fred and Everee Sherrow Corman. A retired 43-year employee of Kentucky Utilities, he was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church since 1956. He was a former member of the church board and was active in United Methodist Men. He was the fire chief for the Woodford County Fire Department from 1957 to 1959, worked with the first WHAS Crusade for Children in 1958, collecting over $1,400, served on the city fire department beginning in 1962 and was the electric training officer. He was a golfer and fisherman, and involved with Little League baseball, helped to maintain the fields, and managed the Giants in 1962. In addition to his wife of 67 years, he is survived by two daughters, Delia (Jim) Spurgeon and Melissa Corman, both of Versailles; a sister, Sheila Douglas, Frankfort; four grandchildren, Leslie (Mark) Gaus, Jason (Larissa) Spurgeon, Marlon (Lora) Hutchens, and Angela Richardson; and four great-grandchildren, Emma Gaus, Lidia Gaus, Jonah Gaus, and Scarlett Hutchens. Two sons, Freddy Corman and Danny Corman, a grandson, Zachary Hutchens, two brothers, Perry Corman and Sid Corman, and two sisters, Marie Cox and Geraldine Sutherland, are deceased. Services were conducted Saturday, Sept. 17, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Jim Tuttle. Burial was in the Versailles Cemetery. Casket bearers were Jason Spurgeon, Marlon Hutchens, Mark Gaus, Jeff Starcher, William Starcher, and Robert Chilton. Honorary bearers were Cecil and Jean Clark, Ernest Whitus, Robert Foley, Winfrey Adkins, Doug Matthews, Billy Wilson, and Jaquie Wilson. Memorials are suggested to the Versailles United Methodist Church building fund.
