Candidates' forums set for Oct. 13, 20

The Midway Woman's Club and the Woodford County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a candidates' forum on Thursday, Oct. 13, at Midway University for individuals running for Midway City Council.

There are seven individuals running for six positions. The candidates running for city council are Sara Hicks, Bruce Southworth, Steven Craig, Kaye Nita Gallagher, Libby Warfield, Steve Simoff, and John McDaniel II. All candidates have agreed to participate in the forum.

The official program will begin at 7 p.m. in the Duthie Auditorium inside the Anne Hart Raymond Building. All candidates are welcome to arrive and set up information tables in the lobby area of the building at 6 p.m. to greet guests arriving and talk with them individually. Candidates are welcome to stay after the event in the lobby area to speak with guests.

The second candidates' forum will be held on Thursday, Oct. 20. The official program will begin at 7 p.m. in the Duthie Auditorium inside the Anne Hart Raymond Building. Candidates invited include Sen. Rand Paul, Lexington Mayor Jim Gray, U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, Nancy Jo Kemper, state Rep. James Kay, Daniel Fister and Supreme Court candidates Judge Lawrence VanMeter and Judge Glenn Acree. Those who have responded so far and are attending include Nancy Jo Kemper, James Kay, Daniel Fister and Judge VanMeter and Judge Acree. Andy Barr respectfully has declined to attend.

Both of these forums will have the same agenda. Each candidate will get three minutes to introduce themselves and then all candidates will be asked questions that are submitted by the community members. Each member will have two minutes to answer the question.

These are not debates but informational forums for the community. Questions for the candidates may be sent to Don Vizi at the Woodford County Chamber of Commerce, 141 N. Main Street, Versailles KY 40383, or by email at woodforddirector@gmail.com.
