Richard Lee Knight, 77, of Portland, Ind., widower of Judith Knight, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016, at his residence. Born Nov. 5, 1938, in Muncie, Ind., he was the son of Edward and Grace (Hamilton) Knight. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Portland. He was the past owner of a furniture store in Lansing, Mich., and also worked at 3M in Hartford City. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. for four years. Survivors include a sister, Mary E. (Fred) McKinley, Eaton, Ind.; a brother-in law, David (Sally Beard) Carlson, Portland, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Donna (Carlson)Tyndall, Portland; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Services were conducted Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Portland, Ind., by Pastor Mark Strietelmeier. Burial was in the Green Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Family Life Care of Berne, Ind., or the Jay County Humane Society.
