Edward E. "Gene" Cains, 87, of Lawrenceburg, husband of Peggy Cains, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016. Born June 26, 1929, in Scott County, he was the son of the late Edward and Mary Marshall Cains. He was a property manager with CPM and a member of First Christian Church, where he was involved with Christian Men's Fellowship, the men's Sunday school class, and was a member of the choir and a deacon emeritus. He was also a veteran in the United States Army, having served on the Honor Guard. He coached Little League Baseball in Scott County for many years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Tina Cains and Darrel Cains, both of Georgetown; two stepdaughters, Kim Boyd, Versailles, and Karla (Steve) Luker, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Darrek Cains, Josh Bunch, Garrett Bunch, Layne Boyd, Brant Luker, Graham Luker and Sam Luker; and three great-grandchildren, Hayden, Louis and Chelsea. A daughter Regina Cains, and eight siblings are deceased. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at First Christian Church, Versailles, by the Rev. Marcus Lynn. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, in the Life Center of First Christian Church. Casket bearers will be his grandsons. Contributions may be made to First Christian Church Building Fund or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
