Ernie Shook, 79, of Versailles, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016. Born April 3, 1937, in Woodstock, Ill., he was the son of the late Isabel and Delmar Shook. At Woodstock High School, he lettered in all three sports. He served in the Army and Reserves. In 1963, he married Mary Lou Henehan in Woodstock, Ill. They moved to Versailles in 1986, where they established Bit-O-Blarney Farm. While in Woodstock, he co-owned and operated Woodstock Lumber Co. He was a St. Mary's Church trustee, a Lions Club president, a board member of the State Bank, and athletic director and coach of basketball at St. Mary's. He was inducted into the Illinois Middle School Basketball Hall of Fame. In addition to his wife Lou, he is survived by two children. Maureen Moran (Mark) and Brian Shook (Veda); four grandchildren, Kate, Ella, Isabelle, and Donovan; and numerous favorite nieces and nephews. A brother, Eugene, and a sister, Karen, are deceased. A funeral mass was conducted Monday, Oct. 24, at St. Leo Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested for the Hippotherapy Fund to benefit the children who participate in hippotherapy at Central Kentucky Riding for Hope, P.O. Box 13155, Lexington, KY 40511, or St Leo's church, Versailles.
