James R. “Goat” Hartley, 95, a retired Woodford County farmer, husband of Mary B. Hartley, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at Homestead Nursing Home. Born in Woodford County, he was the son of the late Clifford and Mary Waters Hartley and was a member of the Troy Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife of 74 years, he is survived by two sons, James R. (Nellie Jo) Hartley Jr. and Ulis Dave (Nancy) Hartley, both of Versailles; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Two sisters, Hazel Wright and Aileen Howard, and two brothers, Charles Hartley and Sonny Hartley, are deceased. Services were conducted Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home by the Rev. Carl Jones. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers were Barry Hartley, Glen Hartley, Ben Garffie, Matthew Hartley, Ben Hartley, and Gary Baugh. Honorary bearers were Kelly Hartley, Sara Hartley, Kristin Garffie, Kaitlin Hartley, and Crystal Baugh. Contributions are suggested to a favorite charity.
