Joyce McFarland Carpenter, 85, of Midway, widow of Henry Carpenter, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2016. Born in Paris, she was the daughter of the late Omer and Catherine Yazell McFarland. She worked as a seamstress for Fruit of the Loom and was a member of Midway Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Beckie Slaughter, Midway; three half-sisters, Pauline Rhinesmith, Emma Jean Means, and Catherine Branock; and two half-brothers, Dean McFarland and Tommy McFarland. A sister, Bernice Stanfield; four brothers, Grover, Clarence, Elmer, and James McFarland; a half-sister, Frances Garrison; and a half-brother, Jackie McFarland, are deceased. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Road, Frankfort, by the Rev. Steve Hadden. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 22, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midway Baptist Church.
