Morris E., Mitchell, 90, husband of Emma L. Mitchell, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017. Born Jan. 18, 1926, in McCracken County, he was the son of the late Evender and Elsie Langston Mitchell. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Chevron Oil after 35 years of service. He was a former member of the Lexington Rotary Club, where he was named 1995 Rotarian of the Year. He served as an elder for many years in the Presbyterian Church and had been a member of Pisgah Presbyterian Church since 1973, where he served as Clerk of the Session. In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by two children, David K. Mitchell and Judy (Mike) Cooper; five grandchildren, Emily Mitchell, Robert (Katie) Mitchell, Madeline Mitchell, Mitchell Cooper and Ann Louise Cooper; and two great-grandchildren, Archie and Felix Mitchell. Services were conducted Monday, Jan. 16, at Pisgah Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Mary Reed. Honorary casket bearers were Dr. Abe Fosson, Frank Hardesty, Hal Kirkley, and Smith Mitchell. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Dr., Lexington, KY 40504, or Pisgah Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund.
