Winfield


Shirlene Winfield, 69, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2017. Born on May 21, 1947, in Woodford County, she was the oldest daughter of Harry Winfield and the late Virginia Winfield. She attended schools in the Cleveland Public School System and graduated from East Technical High School in 1967. Upon graduation, she attended Cuyahoga Community College. She accepted Christ at the age of 9 at Antioch Baptist Church. At Antioch, she was the president of a youth organization called the Sunshine Band. The club did community service activities for the elderly members in the congregation. She spent many years tutoring and helping people to read and earn their General Educational Development (GED) certificates. She also passed the exam to become a H.A.M (Hertz-Armstrong-Marconi) operator. She was employed at the U.S. Post Office, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) and several other employers. She also enjoyed fish, having aquariums full of all types of exotic fish. In addition to her father, she is survived by a sister, Ruby Winfield, Cleveland, Ohio; a brother Gregory Winfield, Cleveland, Ohio; an aunt, Bernice Bradley, Nicholasville; an uncle, Herbert Winfield (Yvonne), Cleveland, Ohio; and numerous other Kentucky and Cleveland relatives. Services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 14, at Pernel Jones and Sons Funeral Home, Cleveland, Ohio, by Pastor Frank Smith.
