Dan Douglas Collins Jr., 70, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park, Ill.
Born July 4, 1946, at Woodford Memorial Hospital, he was the son of Christine Creth Collins and the late Dan Douglas Collins Sr. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1966 to 1968. After high school, he attended trade school to become a welder. He worked for Rand McNally for 31 years in press operations. He was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church. In addition to his mother, he is survived by three children, Juanita E. Collins, Yolanda M. Collins, and Jerome W. “JW” Collins; two sisters, Geraldine (Charles) Brown and Marilyn Collins; a brother, Ellis (Roslyn) Collins; two grandchildren, Jasmine M. Collins and Caramia J. Collins; and an aunt, Phyllis Dockies, all of Versailles.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 9, at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 215 Douglas Avenue, Versailles, by the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Strode. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. Committal service and interment will be in the Steele Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Herbert Bush, Jason Higgins, Fred Jackson, Joe Richards Sr., John Walker, and Gerald Hobbs. Honorary bearers will be Donald Hudson, Larry Hudson, Howard Jones, and Clyde Routt.
