Martha Dae Hershenson, 95, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2017. Born June 21, 1921, in Lexington, she was a lifelong area resident. She was a founding charter member of Highlands Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Larry H. Hershenson, Lake Junaluska, N.C.; two daughters, Debra K. Gaines, Lexington, and Joni Lee Edester, Versailles; 10 grandchildren, Teresa L. Mason, Boston, Mass., L. Hal Hershenson II, Hickory, N.C., Bethany Dae Grainger, Candler, N.C., Jonna Beth Bryant, Versailles, Angela Barnes, Frankfort, Kristen Richards, Versailles, Sean Edester, Versailles, Andrew S. Tatum, Raleigh, N.C., Claire Tatum-West, Sylva, N.C., and Harry Tatum, Lake Junaluska, N.C.; and 13 great-grandchildren, Hannah Mason and Sarah Mason, Boston, Mass., Micah Hershenson, Hickory, N.C., Alec Melton, Hickory, N.C., Logan Hopkins, Ft. Bragg, N.C., Bryson Hopkins, Candler, N.C., Evan Grainger, Ft. Campbell, Ryan Grainger, Asheville, N.C., Tiana and Giuseppe Barnes, Frankfort, Jaxson and Jasper Bryant, Versailles, and Lux Richards, Versailles. A daughter, Beverly Jo Young, is deceased. Graveside services were conducted Friday, Feb. 10, in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lexington. Casket bearers were L. Hal Hershenson, Micah Hershenson, Austin Grainger, Bryson Hopkins, and Bland Mason. Honorary bearer was Stephen Gaines. Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass or Immanuel Baptist Church.
