Hubert W. Shipp, 86, of Versailles, husband of Jane Mitchell Shipp, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at Bluegrass Community Hospital. Born in Versailles, he was the son of the late Clifford and Lavinia Rabe Shipp. A retired GTE phone company employee, he was in the United States Air Force and had been a supporter of the Woodford County Backpack Program for years. Survivors include a son, Wendell Shipp (Darra); two daughters, Sue Tingle (Dave), Versailles, and Penny Merideth (Roger), Vine Grove; a stepson, Stephen McDaniel (Mary), Versailles; two stepdaughters, Linda Hart (Denny), Lexington, and Virginia Field (Harden), Versailles; a sister, Bonnie Kay (Tom), Versailles; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A son, Butch Shipp, two sisters, Mildred Schuler and Shirley Morris, and two brothers, H.C. Shipp and Jim Shipp, are deceased. Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Versailles Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Woodford Backpack Program, c/o First Christian Church, 160 Lexington St., Versailles, KY 40383.
