It was a great week for basketball. The Cats beat Florida and in their next game came back from a 19-point deficit and beat Vanderbilt. However, if you missed the Northside Watch D.O.G.S (Dads of Great Students) and the Versailles Police Department game, you missed a great one. The Versailles Police Department led the game the whole way until time began to run out. The D.O.G.S. started getting serious and at the games end they won 62-61, much to the delight of many folks who filled the bleachers at Northside's gym. The real winners - thanks to the two teams taking their time to play and raise money - were the students at Northside Elementary School. The money raised at this event will go to the guidance counseling office and maintaining the Watch D.O.G.S. program at Northside School. ... Midway restaurants are living up to their reputations. I was just going through the Internet and to look at the best of American towns media and saw where they had listed Wallace Station number 9 and Holly Hill Inn number 11 in their list of the top 15 restaurants in Kentucky. In the past, we have seen Guy Fieri, the host and producer of TV's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, name Wallace Station as the home to one of his five favorite burgers. Of course, every time we pick up any paper or magazine about food, you can find Holly Hill Inn or Ouita Michel, as they have been featured in numerous publications, including CBS's The Dish, Southern Living, the San Francisco Chronicle, and The New York Times and you never know when she is going to be featured on TV. How about Open Table reviewers giving Midway's Heirloom Restaurant 5 stars and naming it Diner's Choice in Central Kentucky "Best Overall Restaurant?" ... Midway Mayor, Grayson Vandergrift, was one of three speakers invited to speak at an American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky legislative reception recently. The reception took place at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History. He spoke to those in attendance about Midway's fairness ordinance, prohibiting discrimination against people based on sexual orientation and gender identity and how it has been good for business in Midway. ... Fat Tuesday did not go unrecognized this year, as Midway Christian Church held its celebration again this year. Just like last year, Master Burgoo Chef Rick Caudle whipped up a big batch of his famous burgoo. Burgoo connoisseurs enjoyed Rick's burgoo along with cornbread, dessert, and a drink of choice. I ate so much it took me two hours before I could put my shoes on without help. Don't forget that Midway Presbyterian Church still offers a yoga class on Saturday mornings at 8:30. This class is for all fitness levels and is open to the public. The class is free, but donations will be accepted. Bring a yoga mat and towels.
