10 Years Ago March 22, 2007 A group of parents told the Woodford County Board of Education on Monday night that the grass surface at Community Stadium needs to be replaced this summer so their children will have a safe football/soccer field for next season. The parents suggested an artificial surface would provide the best solution because of the large number of games played on the field each year. John T. Mitchell Jr., 90, a well-known Woodford County farmer, widower of Ruby Jewell Montgomery Mitchell, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007. Lucy Dabney Garrett Munson, 85, of Lexington, formerly of Woodford County, widow of Charles Tabb George, Vassie Lee Westfall, and Samuel Lyman Munson, died on March 17, 2007. After being on the market for nearly a decade, only three lots have been sold at the Midway Station Industrial Park, and the Midway City Council is looking for a way to bolster sales. On Monday night, the council heard from two real estate experts who recommended changes for the park. The idea was put into motion by the Midway Preservation Association, who vowed to help find a more "suitable" tenant other than the Blue Grass Stockyards. The outside experts evaluated the property and made recommendations to the council. 25 Years Ago March 19, 1992 The planning and zoning commission has approved a development plan and preliminary plat for Lane's View subdivision on Midway Road. Versailles has joined Woodford County in requesting that a western Versailles bypass from Troy Pike to Lawrenceburg Road in the state's six-year road plan. Jennifer Marshall, a junior from Versailles, has been elected historian of the Western Kentucky University Panhellenic Council. On the sixth-grade honor roll at Simmons Elementary: Chris Cunliffe, Jill Goh, Michael Mitchell, Lindsey Colvin; Ricky Muniz, Nathan Thacker, Susan Robinson, Jay Gayheart, and Stephanie Auberry, and at Midway Elementary: Jason Daily, Cara Endicott, Michelle Workman, and Ian Horn. The cast of Woodford County High School's production of "Arsenic and Old Lace" includes Susannah Vance, Marti Trumbore, Chad Robinson, Angie Threlkeld, Heather Sanderson, Marti Burton, Beth Ethington, Damon Boggess, Josh Zamora, Dan Szatkowski, Clint Newman, Sam Turner, and Chad Henderson. 40 Years Ago March 24, 1977 Woodford Circuit Judge Robert Hall Smith has ruled that the plat for the Pineway Farms development on Ky. 33 and Scott's Ferry Road was properly filed with the county clerk without prior approval of the Planning and Zoning Commission. Among political announcements this week are: Vernon Howard, James R. Alcoke, and Eddie Knight for Woodford Fiscal Court, Ben Downey and Luther Bland for the Versailles City Council, and James L. Gay for district judge. Not running for reelection are Phil House for the council and Charles E. Smith for fiscal court. Toss Chandler has been accepted to membership in the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen. Leading roles in Woodford County High School's production of "The Music Man" are being played by Cindy Sharon, David Meekins, Brenda Berryman, and David Macemon.
